You look back and realize your life has not turned out how you had hoped. You feel like you have no idea who you are anymore and are unsure when that even happened. You feel like your trauma has stolen your life from you. You are burdened with trauma and are tired of everyone telling you how strong you are. You want real change. Depression, anxiety, stress, family are all impacting you and you wish it would change.

Your life looks great on paper, but you're stuck because of self-limiting beliefs, nagging anxiety, shame from your past, an inner critic that won't shut up, or a depression that constantly whispers a message of hopelessness. I will help you journey into these parts of your story, reclaim hope and move beyond being stuck.

I believe that every person has the capacity to change, heal wounds, and experience new levels of wholeness. Therapy can be a catalyst for growth; a place to be fully seen, known, and equipped. I work with women in transition, whether you're navigating college, career, marriage, or motherhood, as well as all the other "less shiny" changes. We'll work together to create sustainable rhythms for mind-body-spirit wellness. Your goals take center stage. I offer a somatics-based+EMDR integration of treatment in which we grow resiliency, expand your capacity for presence, and strengthen nervous system regulation.

One of our most important relationships is the one we have with ourselves. How we talk to ourselves, treat ourselves, and view ourselves impacts our daily living and the relationships around us. Therapy provides an opportunity to gain awareness of how we relate to ourselves and others. We begin to recognize our relational patterns and understand how these patterns were developed and are maintained. Through this self-understanding, we can begin to learn new ways of being with ourselves and others.

Navigating the world can be stressful and our stress responses can impact us on multiple levels. While trauma and stress may be ever-present, I invite you to consider what else is true. As a therapist, I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is trauma-informed AND resilience-informed, moving people from a place of despair to hope. I have experience working with those navigating anxiety/depression, stress and burnout, grief, and trauma. Cultivating resilience helps build the capacity to hold the complexities of life, and integrating the mind and body allows one to respond intentionally and live more fully.

For some healing and growth can be a difficult experience. This is especially true if you have been in therapy before or have tried various treatment modalities and still feel like something is missing. Self-improvement takes time. Too much too fast can, in fact, be traumatic. My goal is to help you slow it down; to allow time for your process to unfold and integrate at a pace that creates lasting change.

Humans are wired for connection. There are many things that occur within our lives that leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and others. This can lead to experiences of feeling lost, overwhelmed or stuck in repetitive patterns that cause distress. For as long as I can remember I have been passionate about connection. Connection with oneself and others is such a valuable aspect of our human experience.

Life has a way of knocking us down, doesn’t it? It can be tough to create a life that feels fulfilling. We can find ourselves dissatisfied in our relationships, career, or life, and it can be difficult to shake the nagging sense that life has not turned out how we expected or hoped. Perhaps, you are struggling with a difficult boss or a job that doesn’t quite seem to fit your skill set. Or perhaps, no matter matter how hard you try you cannot seem to make progress with your relationships (whether that be your spouse, significant other, family, or friends), and it continues to be distant, disconnected, or conflicted.

I work well with clients seeking help for problems with anxiety and depression. Those referred to me with these issues find that symptomatically they are struggling with panic, sleep disturbances, worry thoughts, self-defeating thoughts/behaviors, eating disorders, addictions and unknowingly, at times, some of their difficulties have been attached to old trauma. Many people with these sorts of struggles find that this spills over into problems with relationships and/or functioning at work and school. Areas of intimacy, both emotional and sexual are important work also. I work with individuals, married couples, families, and groups.

Have you ever noticed yourself feeling "stuck" in your thoughts, feelings, or behaviors? Do you experience an internal, exhausting, tug-of-war between your mind and body? This can feel overwhelming and lonely, leaving many people feeling powerless. This is a common feeling, one that I myself have experienced. Painful experiences, significant life changes, relationships, or past memories can begin to feel as though they have great power over us and the people we want to be. I am passionate about helping people name those thoughts, feelings, and memories in a safe relationship to begin the journey of healing and empowerment.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
