Seeing what is true relieves anxiety and opens one up; it is freeing. Life brings profound events to us, often without our permission. Our culture and society can challenge our sense of safety and our willingness to reach out for what we need. We take it personally because it is all around us. It can be confusing to try to figure out what exactly we have the ability to change. How do we identify and then begin our own heart’s work? If you are looking for a therapist, it is most likely because you need support and new information to get unstuck, to connect, to heal, or to just get your groove back on.

With specialized training in EMDR and IFS I can help you resolve both "t" and "T" traumas - situational and attachment-based traumas.
Trauma can leave us feeling adrift. Unhappy and unsure of who we are. Emotions may be blunted or they may swing. This unhealthy way of being in the world negatively impacts our relationships, jobs, and friendships. To create a life that works for us we need to heal from our trauma; to nurture and strengthen a place within where we can make healthy choices. We can grow to honor who we are at our core and live from there.

My approach is attachment-based and trauma responsive.
In my work with individuals and couples, I engage in each therapeutic relationship with a warm, reflective, and grounding presence. I believe firmly in the worthiness of all to a sense of belonging, dignity, and agency and have witnessed time and again how therapy can be a powerful tool in accessing these needs. Being heard and understood within a supportive therapy environment allows us to both uncover our innate strengths and cultivate the skills and insight necessary to reduce suffering. Regardless of how ingrained and automatic our patterns might be and how stuck we might feel, a more peaceful life is possible for each of us.

Making the choice to start therapy can be a scary step. I believe that every client should be supported by a therapist who brings a sense of realness, support, encouragement, and knowledge to each and every session. You should be able to walk into every session with a feeling of comfort and safety discussing your struggles. My goal is to bring those qualities while helping clients find relief, understanding, and their purpose.

The mask you put out into the world doesn’t quite match your inner self. People don’t see you how you see yourself, you don’t know how you see yourself —it’s exhausting, isolating, and often debilitating. You are wondering how to navigate this life with all its trials. You might by wondering if you are living a life that has meaning for you. Now, imagine living true to yourself, and the joy of life without a mask. Visualize yourself with greater self-awareness, emotional understanding, and the ability to negotiate life from a more centered and present perspective. This is the courage to be, and it already resides inside of you.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
