In my therapeutic practice, I draw from a diverse set of treatment modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Instinctual Trauma Response (ITR) Method, Mindfulness, Somatic Experiencing, Attachment-Based Therapy, Object Relations, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
I work with clients aged 14 and above across all gender identities. While my expertise lies primarily in aiding individuals and families impacted by complex and chronic trauma, I'm also skilled in addressing anxiety, depression, and assisting families to enhance their communication dynamics. My years in trauma and PTSD treatment have taught me the multifaceted nature of traumatic experiences. Whether it's a sudden life-changing event like an accident or more subtle, long-standing issues rooted in family dynamics or early life experiences, I understand the challenge in trusting someone with your personal stories.

Therapy is not education or advice-giving. People are unique, so elements of therapy are tailored because healing is different for everybody. My treatment approach is an atmosphere were you can speak your mind safely, to someone who listens, listens intelligently, and cares is important. I believe a successful counseling experience depends on the therapists ability to understand and respect the unique concerns, background, and context of each patient. I am committed to achieving such an understanding in every counseling relationship.

Do you find yourself triggered by reminders of the past or feeling emotionally disconnected from yourself and others? Trauma and toxic stress leave us feeling broken, damaged, and disconnected from our true selves. You may be fed up with feeling triggered in everyday situations, isolated from loved ones, or burdened by shame and guilt. You might not even remember a time things didn't feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you're ready for relief. You're ready for healthy relationships and a renewed sense of purpose. Most of all, you're ready to heal and rediscover the strong, resilient person you are within.

I specialize in female anxiety and managing the stress associated with the challenges that women often face. In my work with clients, we identify the root causes of their anxiety, increase their ability to tolerate distress, and regulate their nervous system. I help clients understand the impact of the mental load and emotional labor on their feelings of overwhelm. We identify traits that have served as protection in childhood that may start to work against the client's goals as an adult. I also treat body image issues using the Intuitive Eating and HAES framework.

If you are looking for a therapist who will help you explore your childhood and early relationships, in order to understand your current challenges, I would be a great fit for your needs. It is my goal to help my patients recognize their strengths while supporting them as they examine their life patterns. Through our collaboration, patients will decide what changes they want to make. My patients also tell me that in therapy with me, they realize there are aspects of themselves that they previously underappreciated, and they recognize these aspects do not need to be changed but can instead be celebrated.

“It wasn’t that bad. I should get over it.” Does that sound familiar? Many people shame themselves for being hurt by the past. Shame doesn’t stop the suffering, regardless of what caused that pain. I am a therapist committed to helping people overcome stressful or traumatic experiences so that they can live better lives. Working with me involves finding the root of the problem, like when your inner critic first took hold, and weeding it out. I primarily use EMDR for this, which allows people to process the trauma without having to give details about it.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
