I specialize in psychodynamic psychotherapy, couples therapy, attachment-based approaches and embodied practices.
My practice, Rooted Life Therapy, is grounded in the belief that effective therapy is meant to help us bloom and thrive wherever our roots were planted. I work with both individuals and couples looking for growth and change in their lives. I have specific training and experience working with young adults in times of transition, identity formation, anxiety, grief & loss, depression, family planning, relational conflicts, and premarital preparation. I believe that therapy is meant to be a collaborative and empowering process of understanding one's self or relationship more deeply to create a life that is fulfilling and flourishes.

We only get one life. Now is the time for you to walk into the healing and freedom you so desperately seek but are afraid to reach for. Maybe it's the past pains and hurts, abuses and traumas that continue to affect you today. Maybe it's the weight of depression or anxiety. Whatever it is- today.is.the.day. To that end, there are many therapeutic modalities I work within. It is not the modality so much that matters but the match between client and clinician. I may be the “expert” in psychology but you are the expert in your life. We need each other to make the counseling process a success.

I am currently accepting clients for groups. The group is for adults who have (or may have) experienced trauma during childhood and are considering any of the following questions: Even though I have difficult childhood memories, was it really that bad? Was it right how my parents treated me (what they did and/or did not do)? Was it right what they led me to believe about myself, about our family, and about how to interact in relationships? Did my childhood experience leave me with emotional and relational difficulties that have significant negative consequences in my present life?

Being a therapist is a true privilege. In the relaxed and safe atmosphere of my office , clients feel free to explore their deepest feelings, dreams, and real lifechallenges. Together, in a spirit of honesty,we laugh,we cry and we problem solve. Most of us want things to change, but we often don't want to change anything. To choose trust not fear, we must first explore the past, not to linger there, but to explain some of our personal choices and current challenges with relationship. With the strength of new awareness and insight, clients move forward in a most positive way.

"Life is easy!" said no one, ever. Life can be quite difficult and the pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps mentality causes more harm than good. My job is not to tell you how to live your life or to dole out advice, but to help you navigate how YOU want to live your life. My belief is that the client is the expert of their life. Change is scary but necessary for progression and growth. If you're ready to take a stand for your mental health, I am ready to walk with you!

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
