Do trauma, anxiety or depression keep you from the life you want? Do you struggle to understand and gain a healthy sense of control over your own behavior, including substance and process addictions, such as drugs, alcohol, food, and codepency? I also have worked extensively with adolescent and adult clients with ADHD on goal-setting and developing strategies for success.

While finding a new rhythm is not without its challenges, it is a process that I undoubtedly believe is worth the effort. My practice is geared towards providing solution-focused and holistic care. My aim as a therapist is to help my clients become more in tune with their mind, body, and spirit so as to provide a better foundation for getting to know their authentic self. The therapist and client relationship is one that is collaborative, and I meet my clients where they are in order to create a path forward together. You don’t have to figure it out alone, and I'm sure we'll share some laughs along the way.

I have over 22 years of experience working with children and families. The principles of wraparound are a major component of my work as I believe that families are the experts on their own experiences, strengths and needs. Building an integrated team of both natural and professional supports can help a family meet their goals for themselves in a way that is sustainable.

Have you ever wondered if you could live a fuller, happier life? Whether you are "too far gone" or "too messed up" to ever be okay? I’ve wondered that. In my journey, I've discovered that it's possible to struggle deeply, then rise higher than seems plausible. I've also found healing and wholeness is impossible without support from others. Now I have a passion to provide the care I've experienced to each of my clients. The support you need won't be the same as what I’ve needed. Because your story is not mine. But if you’re looking for someone who has walked a long road to wellness, consider reaching out!

Accepting New Clients: Welcome, I’m glad you’re here! Initiating change may be one of the hardest and strongest steps you can take. I work with people facing an array of mental health concerns, and have a specialty in helping people heal from relational trauma. I find we are most often hurt in the context of relationships - a break-up, infidelity, emotional, physical or sexual abuse, being made to feel you are unloved. You may feel overwhelmingly anxious, disconnected or over-attached to loved-ones, or unable to trust. Maybe you begin isolating yourself from friendships or engaging in relationships you know aren’t healthy for you.

People often ask me, "What is the purpose of therapy?" I believe there are a few answers to that question. First, you come to therapy to defrost grief, unexpressed rage and other negative feelings, e.g. traumas, losses, betrayals. You also learn to re-parent yourself. Second, you come to have a better transition in your work or love life, or to improve your performance and personal relations. Finally, you get to share your dreams and goals in a safe environment, with no judgment, and to produce amazing action plans to manifest your best life ever.

Therapy is the gift of time set aside each week to pause, acknowledge how you’re feeling, and connect with yourself in a deeper way. In a time of unprecedented levels of fear, loss, and loneliness, it’s more important than ever to develop meaningful ways to be present with our emotions and learn new ways to soothe and nurture ourselves in the midst of painful feelings. I specialize in relational psychotherapy, a type of therapy that focuses on the quality of your relationships, both with yourself and with others. I also draw on psychodynamic, family systems, trauma-informed, attachment, social justice and anti-oppressive theories.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
