Are you a parent struggling to understand the complex emotional or behavioral issues your kiddo is facing? Maybe you are in survival mode, barely making it through the day before you collapse, exhausted, into bed each night, just do start the whole process over in the morning. It can cause strain on a marriage when survival mode becomes the daily grind. I want to help you add some tools to your toolbelt. Parenting kids with a trauma background is a whole different ballgame that requires a different approach than conventional parenting. I love to help couples be on the same team and make it through these tumultuous waters together.

I have also been trained as an Attachment-Based Intervention Specialist through the AACC.
I believe all people were created with dignity and worth for relationships as beautiful masterpieces that are fragmented by both small and large traumas due to the brokenness of our world. My passion is to walk alongside others in their healing, equipping them with the tools they need to address their emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual goals in pursuing restoration and wholeness. My Christian faith lays the foundation to offer acceptance, grace, freedom, and confident hope for healing. My approach to therapy utilizes Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness and somatic work, and is systemic in focus.

As a fellow human in progress, I believe our greatest resource is relationship and the ability to connect with one another. It is often in the messiness of relationships we’re hurt, but it is also in relationships that we find healing.

“Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are." Sometimes we lose ourselves along the way for whatever reason, be it trauma, loss, depression, anxiety or any number of human experiences. And guess what? It’s okay! You are not alone! When we are disconnected with ourselves, our thoughts lead us to believe we are not good enough or worthy of connection. But you are. It is so brave to want to grow, heal, and rediscover yourself. True healing comes from connection with others and authenticity to the self. I am here to meet you where you are!

Life can be full of joy but can also be lonely and deeply painful. Your personal life may feel unbalanced or your relationships seem stuck. I think it is very courageous to seek health and healing from hurt, internal strife or relational trauma. Relationships cause tremendous pain but can also be the source of magnificent healing. Oftentimes a comfortable, inviting space where you can safely explore who you are at your core is just what you need to begin flourishing and thriving. That same space can be precisely the respite your relationships need.

Parenting a child with baffling and challenging behaviors can be lonely and isolating. When I adopted my own children, I just wanted to be a mom. I thought that love was enough. The reality is, these children have suffered enormous loss and trauma and often display challenging behaviors. I am blessed that I am able to walk alongside families on their path to healing and share what I have learned. I have been a pediatric critical care nurse for 19 years. I have spent my career helping children and their families during what was most likely one of the most challenging and stressful times in their lives.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
