I utilize a foundational framework in Attachment-Based and Humanistic Therapy, and some of the approaches I utilize include Mindfulness Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MCBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
I approach therapy with a compassionate and trauma informed lens, viewing clients as more than what has happened to them. I seek to empower clients to recognize that through conscious awareness, acceptance, and compassion, everything they need is already within. I provide a non-shaming space and guide clients to reconnect with their inner selves, helping them understand their internal world, and access their own healing capabilities. I utilizes a systemic lens to therapy, which understands the important interplay between human behavior and past and current environmental influences and relationships with family, friends, and culture.

I provide both in-person and online therapy, utilizing a narrative and emotionally focused approach, informed by an attachment-based lens.
As a relational therapist, I work with individuals, couples, and families as they navigate anxiety, depression, trust and communication, and life cycle transitions. I enjoy working with clients of all cultural backgrounds, sexualities and non-traditional relationships, as they navigate different phases of life. I hope to provide a communicative, collaborative space in which we can make meaning of the client's lived experiences to foster healing and growth on an interpersonal and intrapersonal level. As a queer, Asian-American woman of color, I hold space for the multiple identities in which clients identify.

I am licensed in California and Illinois, and have advanced training in attachment-based and trauma-informed psychotherapy.
When we feel powerless, alone, or taken advantage of, it makes sense that we numb to cope. We often do this through alcohol and substance use, isolation, and unhealthy relationships. The things we chose to cope initially work really well - until they don't. I work with adults and teens and focus on experiences of trauma, and the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors we develop to live our lives around the people and events that have hurt us.

I employ a variety of different modalities in my work, but primarily draw from psychodynamic, attachment-based, and mindfulness approaches to nurture your innate self-insight and capacity to enact positive change in your life.
We all have an elemental instinct to feel balance and contentment within ourselves. However, emotional distress borne of life stressors, trauma, and inner conflict often compromises our ability to access joy and live in harmony with our values. I work to create a relationship grounded in warmth and non-judgment that supports your sense of safety and experience of feeling heard. Together, we identify areas of focus and explore what carries the capacity to help you reconnect with yourself and your life in meaningful ways.

I also often incorporate interpersonal and attachment-based theories and methods.
My areas of interest include working with adolescents, young adults, and families/couples. In addition, as a South Asian immigrant, I am passionate about working with the BIPOC and immigrant communities to help normalize therapy. I know that these populations often experience struggles specifically relating to their identity and culture and thus I am always working through a culturally competent lens and learning how intersectionality affects one’s mental health. Overall, I help guide those I work with through life challenges, the difficulties of interpersonal relationships, the complex reactions of trauma, and anxiety/stress.

My approach to practice is loss and trauma-informed, from an attachment-based, emotionally-focused therapy perspective, always considering the complexity of multicultural aspects that shape our lives.
I am passionate in working with relational issues, either when helping individuals or couples and families. I believe that our relationships have an essential impact on our well-being. I am yet to hear a client or a friend or a family member talk about distress that is not somehow associated to a relational issue... Aren't we all longing to belong and to find safety and security in the arms of our loved ones (partners, parents or very dear friends that are like family)? And yet, these are precisely the people that can hurt us the most.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
