I deeply respect and value the courage that it takes for an individual to seek therapy. It is an incredible gift to oneself. Echoing the words of Erich Fromm, I wholeheartedly believe that “whether we or not we are aware of it, there is nothing of which we are more ashamed than of not being ourselves, and there is nothing that gives us greater pride and happiness than to think, to feel and say what is ours”. While fostering a therapeutic relationship grounded in trust and authenticity, I seek to emphasize each individual's unique strengths and skills as we sort out the emotional distress together.

I specialize in trauma work from an attachment-based lens, focusing on parental, family and generational traumas. Your brain and body are not just connected but are a single system- your nervous system. This is why your body also carries trauma and stress. I integrate somatic/body-based therapies to help with managing strong emotions, numbness and dissociation. Learning how to ground yourself, both feel and regulate your emotions, and form healthy attachments in your relationships can be life-changing. Trauma can change your brain and your connection to your body, but we’ve proven healing to be equally powerful.

Therapy can be a very daunting, ambiguous, and scary process that first begins with finding a therapist that is a good fit for you. The therapeutic relationship is a very unique relationship and a lot different from many of the relationships we experience in our everyday lives. It is the most important component of the therapeutic process, which is why building a strong therapeutic alliance and establishing trust with my clients is my top priority. As a therapist, I emphasize the importance of meeting my clients where they are, being genuine and authentic, and creating space for my clients to safely come back home to themselves.

I work with individuals and couples wanting to work on anxiety, depression, family and relationship issues, conflict and communication, relational and religious trauma, grief, and low self-esteem. But what this really looks and feels like "people-pleasing" tendencies, shame, anger, fear of the unknown, and difficulty opening up with yourself and others. I use tools that support healing from trauma (EMDR, body awareness, and Mindfulness), creating healthier relationships (Attachment-based therapy), and reducing stress and anxiety (CBT, Mindfulness).
Maybe you're weighed down by memories you're trying to shake. You want to connect with a partner, but the same negative patterns keep playing out in your romantic life. A good night's sleep is rare, the tightness and stress in your shoulders is constant, but you have trouble pinning down exactly what it's stemming from. And you want things to change, even though you aren't sure exactly where to start with it all. The good news is that you don't have to go through this all alone. I'll walk with you as we make sense of the challenges you're facing and I'm confident that through our time, you'll begin feeling better.

My clinical experience includes supporting clients with anxiety, depression, emotional awareness and regulation, complex trauma, grief/loss, stress, life transitions, and relationship challenges.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
