I take an integrative approach, pulling from Mindfulness-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Attachment-based Therapy.
I have a curious mind, a compassionate heart, and aspiration to help people. As a Master’s level clinician, I am privileged to walk alongside clients on their personal growth and healing journey. Choosing to seek counseling can be intimidating and scary, and it can also be courageous and brave. We all experience challenging and stressful times in life. As humans, we are made for connection and don’t have to do everything on our own. I believe the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for creating a safe and non-judgmental environment for my clients to express their unique needs.

You have the suspicion that past childhood trauma or previous feelings of abandonment are impacting your current intimate partner relationships. You may have explored your attachment style and want to get a handle on how to not let your past impact your future. Maybe you are someone who gets along well in your relationships - perhaps, too well because you aren’t implementing healthy boundaries. You’re drained but don’t know how to get out of the cycle because everyone now expects for you to be the “strong” friend, or adult child. You want to get to the root of what is going on so that you can be happy in your relationships.

I draw on a blend of therapeutic techniques and interventions, including CBT, mindfulness and attachment-based approaches, and DBT.
There are many things that may impact a person's ability to lead a full life, including challenges at work or school, relationship issues, depression and anxiety, and past traumas or losses. My goal as a therapist is to help clients move through their challenges and develop a deeper understanding of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so they are able to live more satisfying and present lives. I do this by assisting clients in processing their feelings and identifying and connecting the things that have shaped them - including their relationships, thoughts, and attachment/trauma experiences - to their current issues.

I work with individuals on both a short-term and long-term basis, and draw from a variety of theories and approaches including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, existential and attachment-based therapies.
I specialize in working with adults who have trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, stress, and relationship issues. Often when we experience difficult life events, we hold our upsetting memories vividly in our thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and even in our bodies. We revisit the painful past again and again, stuck in negativity and unable to simply talk our way out of the distress. I help my clients to access and process, at a deeper level, these experiences, using effective, evidence-based modalities that work. We clear out the painful past to make room for the joyful, fulfilled, self-actualized life they yearn for and deserve.

I primarily use trauma-informed, attachment-based, and somatic interventions to help you find the resources within yourself to create a meaningful life where you feel safe and empowered.
Sometimes we come to a place where we realize the life we are living is not aligned with our personal values, purpose, or desires. There may be patterns that have served a purpose in the past, helping us manage fear when we have felt unsafe and haven't had the resources to effectively cope. While these strategies may have helped you survive, they may now be holding your body and mind hostage to the past. Together we can explore these patterns with the goal to help you develop personal insight, learn new coping strategies, and heal into a fulfilled life.

Are you ready to integrate loving kindness and compassion into the relationship you have with yourself and others? This may seem an impossible healing for those who have endured relational betrayal, death, loss, hurt or trauma. However, shifting focus towards meaning, resilience, and possibility can liberate you from your past and present suffering. What does this mean for you and your loved ones? It means here is an invitation to sit with a non-judgmental human being while you recover, connect, and heal in new ways. It means you may shed old roles, affirm new strengths, and learn others with vulnerability and without guard.

I utilize Play Therapy techniques, Internal Family Systems skills, Attachment-based Theories, Art Therapy techniques, Narrative techniques, and Relational Psychodynamic Theory.
All human beings are designed to be seen authentically, known truthfully, and loved fully, therefore, my therapeutic approach is fundamentally relational. Whether a child or an adult, I seek to honor each person as unique, encourage vulnerability, and remain present in order to help clients work towards a more intimate, authentic, and grounded presence in the world. We all experience harm and this often occurs within relationships, yet relationships also bring healing. It is my hope to create spaces of creativity, curiosity, compassion, courage, and connection in order to foster healing within the therapeutic relationship.

You do not have to have lived through something literally life-threatening to be a trauma survivor. If you didn't get your basic or emotional needs consistently met during infancy and early childhood, you likely struggle in your adult relationships. You might be overly clingy, avoidant, or self-sabotaging with your friendships and romantic partners. Or maybe, for you, it shows up as anxiety, avoidance, dissociation, low self-worth, poor boundaries, and even self-destructive behaviors. This is called complex trauma or attachment-based trauma, and it can be healed!

I approach therapy from a relational psychodynamic and attachment-based framework, with strong influences from intersectional feminism and trauma-informed care practices.
Wherever you’ve been, however you’ve arrived, I’m glad you are here. To me, therapy is about taking time and space to listen to our bodies and emotions, with the hope of allowing us to reconnect with our inherent wisdom. We don't lose touch with this wisdom by accident. Trauma, unhealed wounds, and oppression separate us from our wisdom and intuition, and impact our ability to access all parts of ourselves. You and your body carry so much, from the grief and resilience of those who came before you, to the stress of everyday life. You were never meant to carry it all on your own.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
