Virginia, best known to her colleagues and clients as Betsy, is an active and very engaged psychotherapist for over 20 years in Georgia and Ohio. Her passion for helping others to achieve emotional wellness is reflected in her work with women, children and families. Her speciality is trauma work and the use of a variety of therapies including EMDR, IFS, CBT, Somatic Processing and the creative process to help clients understand their emotional inner life when just words are not enough. Her approach is holistic. She often recommends out of the box-approaches to health like yoga, EFT and meditation as an adjunct to talk therapy.

Mary Barnes is a native to Brunswick, GA and has a passion for working with children, adolescents, young adults, and their families to establish healthy relationships and coping strategies. She completed her graduate work at Valdosta State University with an M.S. in Clinical/Counseling Psychology. Coursework emphasis was placed on Early Childhood and Adolescent development and therapeutic interventions. Her background includes providing individual, group, and family therapy to children and adolescents along with their families in an outpatient setting, school based programs, and residential facility.

Up front, I'm not the therapist for everyone. I don't have a flowery sales pitch about self-fulfillment and safe spaces, I'll probably be wearing an old t-shirt and jeans, I encourage expressive profanity, and I have more tattoos than your average therapist. Most of my caseload is trauma and PTSD. Much of the trauma work involves complex trauma with co-occurring dissociation, personality disorders, substance abuse, and anger. My work with trauma clients includes adult and adolescent survivors of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, both active duty and retired military personnel, and first responders.

For many people, faith is an integral part of their sense of wholeness. For clients who feel that way, I integrate faith into the experience of psychotherapy. Frequent issues that clients bring into counseling include relationships, depression, anxiety, life transitions, illness, and grief. But regardless the struggle, the integration of scientifically evidence-based practices alongside faith belief systems offer a holistic approach to therapy that many clients appreciate. Clients always have the option to exclude faith from their counseling experience.

I have been in practice for a number of years, so my experiences are varied. I work with everyone.....children, adolescents and adults. I am knowlegeable and skillful in the treatment of emotional, behavioral and substance abuse issues.
