I utilize a combination of Attachment-Based Family Therapy, Gottman Method Therapy, and Emotion Focused Therapy to help in your relationships.
Do you feel disconnected from your loved ones? Do you wonder if you are parenting "the right way"? Does every conversation seem to devolve into conflict? If so, you aren't alone. Families and couples everywhere struggle with these same issues. As a specialist in relationship counseling, my focus in family and couples therapy is to help you discover the emotional gaps between you and your loved ones and build lasting bridges of understanding and empathy for each other. Through this process, you will learn how to repair emotional wounds and find happiness in your relationships.

I work from an attachment-based, experiential, systemic, and trauma-informed lens.
I am passionate about working with people who feel disconnected from themselves and their loved ones. Healthy relationships are essential in contributing to our overall well being. This is why I focus on supporting people who feel stuck in their relationships. Life can be difficult, but having supportive relationships can make the hard times more bearable. It is important that you have a space to tell the full truth of your experience without judgment. So many places in our life we are asked to wear masks or say things are “okay” when they aren't. I provide a compassionate space to learn, heal, and grow towards a fulfilling life.

I use a relational and attachment-based frame, drawing from a well of tools and techniques that I've trained in and perfected over two decades.
It's time to make a lasting change, to get real and heal. Your life is too important. I help individuals unravel the complex stories of their lives. Life is full of twists and turns that pull us from our center, creating overwhelm and distress. Limiting beliefs picked up from childhood color our responses to loved ones and ourselves. We engage in behaviors that are disconnected from the person we really want to be. This feels awful.

I help individuals and couples find independence, clarity, joy & meaning. Many of my clients come to me wrestling with attachment wounds, boundaries, heartbreak, troubling communication & behavior patterns and issues of self-confidence. I work collaboratively with my clients to provide an accepting space to explore life experiences, habitual reactions, childhood pain and expectations of relationships. This process can often be uncomfortable, which makes trust and safety my priority. I work from the lenses of Narrative, Attachment-based, Acceptance & Commitment and Emotionally Focused therapies.

My approach uses mindfulness, somatics, and attachment-based modalities to support you in accessing greater awareness and increased capacity, in order to more sustainably engage with what's important to you.
Perhaps you are looking for a non-judgmental and knowledgeable space to explore your experiences of gender, sexuality, and relationships. Perhaps you are experiencing barriers in your sexual and relational health: you feel out of control, disconnected, or stuck in painful patterns. Perhaps you seek a space that affirms gender and sexuality, non-traditional relationships, and the whole of your identities to discuss broader mental health needs or to integrate life transitions. I find survival strength, resilience, and creativity at work even in the most challenging of circumstances.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
