Sometimes life throws you a curveball. If you are here it means you are hoping to change your life for the better. Maybe you are feeling disconnected from the people and things that are important to you. Maybe you feel like you are only living half a life. Sometimes your problems become the only thing that you can focus on, and the life you want to live seems a distant dream. What if there was a way to get unstuck from your problems and get back into your life? Whatever weight you are carrying, these struggles do not have to become your story.

If you're looking to find answers to what is keeping you stuck in your patterns, I can help find that by exploring what the barriers are and by focusing on what's pulling you in a new direction. I don't practice faith/religion in my work and don't reject any faith/religion. I'm committed to providing affirmative therapy with all clients. I'm casual, friendly, biracial, like to give feedback in a clear manner, and I tend to laugh often. When it's appropriate, I share information based on research, history, or theory to challenge and clarify what's keeping you stuck.

I specialize in supporting medical professionals, women, and diversely identifying individuals who are exhausted with their inner critics. Everyday it sounds something like "don't be so stupid," "you don't matter," and "it's your fault." When others critique you... "that tracks" but still hurts. When they compliment you... "if they only knew" or maybe they just want something. You wish you could believe that you aren't as bad as you feel all the time. You just want some peace of mind... or is it peace IN your mind? No matter where you are in your journey, the time has come to make a change.

Early intervention is key in supporting your child’s adaptability and resilience as well as your own well-being as a caregiver. My role as a psychologist is to partner with you to highlight your strengths, restore your confidence, and find lasting resolutions for challenges you and your child are experiencing.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
