I align with attachment-based interventions for individuals, families, and couples/relationships.
Sometimes life can get pretty tricky and have us feeling stuck, unsure, and discouraged. The therapeutic journey involves taking courageous steps in order to move forward, gain self-acceptance, and reconnect with yourself in new ways. I believe that you are the expert of your own life, thus my goal in counseling is to provide you with a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you feel free to explore.

I work with couples, individuals, and families from an attachment-based framework, implementing primarily Emotionally-Focused Therapy and also Gottman methods.
Human beings are hard-wired for connection, which is as essential for survival as food, water, and air. When a person is deprived of that connection it creates bondage that can be crushing, robbing us of the freedom we were created to enjoy. My clinical experience includes trauma, attachment issues, adoption, parenting, marriage, family conflict, anxiety/depression, and spiritual formation.

Through a psychodynamic, attachment-based lens, I help clients process and move forward from early experiences of abuse, neglect, instability, or simply living with adults who had a hard time controlling their emotions or moods.
When we grow up in dysfunctional families, we learn skills to deal with difficult situations that were helpful in the past but that may no longer serve us, like shutting down or exploding when we're upset, conflict avoidance, having trouble asking for what we want or need, people-pleasing, perfectionism, numbing with phone scrolling or substances each night...the list goes on. My ideal clients are adults who have had challenging life experiences and who are hoping to gain insight into how their pasts are impacting them in the present. I help clients to address harmful behaviors, heal from trauma, and create a beautiful life.

My therapeutic approach is attachment-based, trauma-informed and person-centered.
Taking new clients! Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, or feelings of not being good enough? Do you react in ways that cause you to feel embarrassed or ashamed, but did not feel like you were in control? Do you avoid people or situations because you become too overwhelmed or anxious? Do you often put others' needs before your own and end up feeling resentful? If any or all of the above sound familiar, you are not alone. I commonly work with clients who suffer from trauma, narcissistic abuse, emotional abuse, physical abuse, anxiety, depression, codependency, and interpersonal/attachment issues.

I am an integrative therapist that uses cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, and attachment-based approaches.
What if our journey in life isn't meant to be a journey of proving we are enough. What if our journey is one of knowing that we always were. What if who we are, exactly how we are has always been enough; enough to be loved, to be heard, to be seen, enough to be you. Traumatic experiences have a way of making us feeling that we are irreparably broken. We carry them with us in our mind, body, and soul as we continue through our lives searching for something to fill the emptiness they left behind. To the outside world we are who we've always been, yet inside we are showing up in our lives as someone we don't even recognize.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
