I'm a psychoanalytic/psychodynamic therapist, attachment-based, and person-centered.
I work with women who are struggling with overwhelming anxiety. Sometimes this includes issues with relationships, eating issues, sports performance, spirituality, self esteem, codependency, life transitions, and grief. You may be feeling not good enough, stuck in a toxic relationship, uncomfortable asking for help, scared of conflict, intimidated, taken advantage of. You can achieve, tough it out, and make other people happy, but aren’t really happy yourself.

Are you struggling with anxiety and trauma and turning towards unhealthy coping mechanisms in an attempt to manage your emotions? Now is a trying time for almost everyone, and if you have a trauma background what's coming up in the current environment may be reminiscent of the stress, isolation, and fear induced by early childhood experiences. You don't have to handle this alone, and with clinically tested techniques to regulate the mind and body, it's possible to shift from a place of disempowerment to strength.

I do believe we are relational beings, and health can be cultivated in intentional, honest, and reciprocal relationships that respect and reveal our inherent dignity. Relationships with others and ourselves hold great promise and power, they can also be the focus of our pain as we move through life. The therapeutic relationship we build together acts as a staging ground and microcosm to help you renew the relationships you have with yourself and others in life. To that end, I endeavor to help you see what may be driving you while also reflecting on what uniquely reveal in your relationships and looking to increase capacity for joy.

I am trauma-focused and honor the part of you who would like to discover more about yourself, and the part of you who doesn't want to come to therapy and may resist. Is there a part that is curious? Is there a part that is scared? Let's find out who you really are inside. The part that no body else knows, maybe even parts you don't know. Discovering who you are in the present moment happens by learning how to be present. Also searching through art making, writing, dancing, movement and discovering the process happening in the moment can help you find the part in you that shines. All parts of you are welcome.

Life can get really stressful, whether it's work, family, relationships, or even issues within yourself. My goal is to show you not only changes within therapy but also outside of therapy. I see every client as an individual and I truly care about your progress in the work we do together. Because everyone is different, your path to healing or growth may look different than other people around you. It would be a privilege to help you find these resources in yourself and to walk with you on your pathway to wellness.

Clients in my practice express various struggles such as feeling unhappy, lonely, unsatisfied, irritable, lost, stuck, overwhelmed, unmotivated, isolated, inauthentic, and hopeless. They are unsure about where they are in school or work. They may use terms such as depressed, stressed, anxious, numb, traumatized, grieving, and anxious/avoidant attachment. They seek to know themselves more or to feel more whole. They seek to unlearn unconscious and unhelpful habits, as well as grow and tend to their relationships with others and themselves. They want their life to align and feel at peace in a way it might not.

If you’ve been trying to change thoughts, feelings, actions, and reactions without success, it’s not your fault. You’ve been trying to change unconscious, root beliefs with conscious processes. Talking about it, feeling bad about it, journaling, reading books, and other typical “therapy” approaches do not usually shift what is going on below the level of consciousness.

They often report that food feels overwhelming and confusing. We will track and understand the unsettling and yet important feelings you have about yourself, your past, your food intake and your relationships with others. Common topics addressed in session include anxiety, low mood, sleep difficulty, feeling out of control with food, concerns about sex and more. Taking the first step to examine this with us isn't always easy but can be life-altering.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
