I utilize an integrative approach depending on client needs that includes an attachment-based lense, family systems, and is strength based and solution oriented.
I work with adults, teens, and children experiencing a range of concerns including anxiety, stress, parenting issues, school or work challenges, and life transitions. Clients are often interested in taking a pause, reassessing their current situation, and collaborating to try new approaches, improve coping skills and resilience. My goal is to help clients move forward in their daily lives with greater ease, a sense of purpose and peace, and curiosity to care and connect to themselves and others authentically.

Couples therapy is my special focus and therapy with a coach approach is my style. Couples often come to therapy saying they can't communicate, but lack of communication is only the symptom of a deeper conflict. As couples brings their needs to a relationship, sometimes those needs conflict in very profound ways. Once they become a burden for the couple, and each starts blaming the other, communication problems crop up. To discover unfulfilled expectations of our own and to understand those of our partners is the work done in couples therapy. That exploration will help rebuild a love that is rooted in reality.

The most important journey you may make in your life is the journey of building an honest and compassionate relationship with yourself. From shame, pride, trauma, and introjected "shoulds" there are so many reasons that we often operate from a partial and compassionless understanding of ourselves. These blind spots can cause us anxiety, depression, addictions and a multitude of other symptoms that we mistake to be "who we are". I have faith in the human condition and the ability our heal into our own fullness. Therapy is the place to make this journey.

Many people find themselves stuck in internal patterns like perfectionism, overthinking, feeling distrustful of others, people-pleasing, struggling with boundaries, etc. None of these feel good - and they're a drain on our precious energy! These limit our capacity for effective communication, meaningful relationships, and fully living. By focusing on the nervous system, we can interrupt these stress-reaction loops and the associated false beliefs that create feelings of anxiety, depression, emotional paralysis, unexplained pains and headaches, to help you rediscover a felt sense of ease, empowerment, resourcefulness, and vitality.

Living a life where struggling is a regular experience is difficult to change, because no one wants to feel worse. Therapy helps by talking through what's happened, what feels wrong and what ideas you have about it, all which may be conscious or unconscious. What's unconscious surfaces naturally through our work together. Most people enter therapy afraid, because they don't know where to start or are overwhelmed because so much has happened. I can help you navigate this terrain to relieve pain, clarify thoughts and beliefs, and improve well-being.

Things are really hard right now - it is more important than ever to have support. That looks different for everyone, but whether it's parenting, relationship, work, family - or all of the above, create some space and a plan to walk through it - together. It is a journey of insight, compassion, respect, honesty, integrity and courage.

Many people want to change some aspect of their life: to feel more joy, less anxiety, more freedom to act, or to say no! To find their authentic voice in relationships. To stop hating themselves. I offer a safe, welcoming environment for clients to explore their worlds. With equal parts gentleness and honesty, we discover their strategies and limitations. Through this clear seeing, choice emerges. We then work to stablize the tender, newer Self. I think of this process as cultivating "self-agency." It's one of the most important things we can do to increase our vitality and happiness.

As the parent of a high school or college student, it is heart-wrenching to witness your child struggle without knowing how to ease their burden. Lately, you've noticed they're often anxious & overwhelmed, trying to balance academic pressure and extracurricular demands. The college transition, physical changes, and social pressures leave them feeling insecure & burnt out. You may have noticed they're really hard on themselves even when they don't deserve it. All the upcoming changes are piling onto their existing stress, and you're unsure how to help them when they push you away.

We all need support because at times life can be difficult. It may be enough to talk with friends or other people you trust but sometimes not. Maybe you are feeling alone or not connected with yourself and people around you. Therapy can be a way to help you reconnect. I offer a genuine environment in which we look together how you can get back on track. I believe that connection is a basic human need: being connected with yourself and with the people around you. This is a core value in all of my work.

Navigating life challenges can be overwhelming at times. Loss, too little nuturing, and unresolved wounds can leave us feeling depressed, anxious and searching for answers. Therapy can help us make sense of these and bring us back to our authentic self. By providing a nuturing and collaborative environment we can create change together!

"Anyone with children knows that they are challenging as well as rewarding. It is when these challenges outweigh the loving relationship that children start to typically manifest symptoms. Due to internal and/or environmental stresses, children can become withdrawn, oppositional, easily overwhelmed, and scared. This in turn can compromise your child's present and future relationships, academic performance, self-esteem, and the parent-child relationship. When difficulties are addressed early, children gain a sense of mastery and safety lasting a lifetime." Dr. Lynch has worked with young children in preschool, research, state/county, and clinical settings over the last ten years.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
