In my work with children and teenagers, I see behavior as having meaning. Difficult behaviors such as defiance, tantrums, aggression, and isolation are often the youth’s maladaptive attempts at communicating emotions. I see my role as a facilitator of effective communication, collaborating with youth to understand their experiences and identify/verbalize their thoughts and feelings. With a decade of working with kids in a variety of settings, I work primarily from a relational and attachment-based foundation, which utilizes compassion, attunement, and co-regulation to promote wellbeing through enhanced relationships and self-worth.

I currently see adolescents, adults, parents, and couples in private practice specializing in psychotherapy. I work from a contemporary psychodynamic/attachment based model. I seek to create an emphathic environment to help clients feel understood, while also challenging them to go to greater depths by confronting self-defeating or growth inhibiting patterns of relating to self and others.

My approach integrates psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, dialectical, and attachment-based theories while being mindful of systemic and cultural factors.
Therapy is often sought after a major life transition or stressor. However, there are myriad benefits to seeking support in the process of change or uncertainty. Perhaps you've noticed a shift in your mood, sleep, or appetite, or you've found yourself feeling tired and overwhelmed. If you wait until these symptoms exacerbate, they may compound with other complex issues that can become more difficult to resolve. Early intervention is essential.

I'm happy you're here. It takes courage to seek out a perspective that can transform and empower you. When we allow ourselves the time to connect with our bodies, thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, we can heal and release what no longer serves; while at the same time strengthening what is true. Everything you are feeling serves a purpose. It is useful information. Symptoms such as: anxiety, depression, addiction, or relationship challenges are all trying to tell you something. You need some attention and we can all benefit from positive, focused attention where we need it.

What I know more than anything else is that you are the expert of yourself and you have access to an unlimited source of wisdom within you. I am here to hold the lantern as you explore and (re)discover the resources that live within. Are you constantly overthinking, overanalyzing, anxious, or worried? Are you having a difficult time managing the many challenges that have come over the last few years? Do you find yourself falling back into the same patterns repeatedly, even after resolving to change? Do you want to change aspects of your life, but feel stuck and unsure how to get there? You are in the right place.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
