I am a LCSW providing virtual therapy in AZ, CA and NV. In my work, I believe that the true health and freedom we crave present themselves when we align body, mind and soul and return to the instinctual, intuitive wisdom that exists within us to guide us on our life journey. Through returning to ourselves and the sense of safety, security and love that come with feeling safe and at home in our bodies, we are able to open to life and live fully. Working with me requires a willingness to do hard, deep, but gentle, work.

Living with unprocessed trauma can feel like trying to keep a beachball under water. You can do it, but it requires a lot of your energy and if you let your attention slip, it will come exploding to the surface. But we do this because we feel we don’t know what we will do when we have to look the trauma in the face. We fear it will overwhelm us and we won’t be able to cope. But when the pain of your past traumatic event becomes too unbearable, you know that it’s time to do something about it.

*I am currently taking new virtual and in person clients* As a therapist, I join my clients to support, guide, and tackle life's obstacles together. I believe that creating a professional but strongly interpersonal relationship is the key to change and allows client's walls to come down and healing to begin. I use my training in family of origin issues, trauma and addiction treatment, and intimacy disorders to help clients to start living the life they want to live and do it bravely.

We all have things that we keep in the dark, believing if this ever came to light it would destroy me. But it's never those things that destroy us, it's always the darkness. Shame, self doubt, and trauma all live in the darkness. We push down our feelings and numb out for fear that the vulnerability of feeling the emotions will become overwhelming and we won't be able to cope. But the numbness is isolating and never gets us towards the rich and valuable life that seems out of reach. Hi, my name is Troy and I specialize in helping men connect to themselves and improve the relationships around them.

Trauma can disrupt the fabric of every part of our day. We see other people walking around, seemingly living a happy and peaceful existence and feel like we would give anything to just have that. It can be so hard to even acknowledge how much trauma has affected our lives. We lie to ourselves and say “it wasn’t that bad” or think that we should be able to move on. But the truth is, trauma can leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and isolated.

Choosing to go to therapy can be an overwhelming decision, and finding a therapist that you can feel comfortable to open up to about the deeper things can be daunting. Don't over think it, just be proud that, in this moment, you have become self aware enough to want to take the time to work on yourself and become a person with the capacity to change, heal, grow, and rebuild. I am trained in CBT, DBT, and EMDR and I will always do my best to create a comfortable, secure (and sometimes even comical) therapeutic environment for you. No matter what you choose to do from here, remember that you are worthy of your own effort !

Navigating life, stress, and building meaningful connections can be hard. As a clinician with a specialized skill set, I strive to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for all who enter. The hardest step can be getting here, and you’re here. Having worked years in the behavioral health field, I’ve learned to adapt to each individual. My style often includes neuro-affirming, client centered, play therapy techniques, and other evidenced based methodologies such as ACT. My hope is to work collaboratively with you as an individual, with your child, and/or family, to develop the tools you need to support in navigating life.

This is not a "simple thing," finding someone you can connect with to help in your journey can change your life. I know that sentence can be both terrifying and hopeful and I welcome all those parts. I show up with compassion, challenge, warmth, and honesty. Helping you show up to yourself and others is an important part of growth and connection, and we all need it. I offer a holistic approach to therapy, which takes into consideration body, mind/soul, and spirit. I am also trained in Internal Family Systems, an integrative model of realigning ourselves in wholeness.

Therapy can be weird. It can be uncomfortable to open up to a stranger about your thoughts, feelings, traumatic memories, and expose the aspects of you that are unhealthy. Therapy can also be a space where you allow yourself to be fully known, fully valued, and more clearly understood. My goal is to create an environment where you can more fully understand yourself, accept yourself, and allow yourself to grow in order to live an exciting and fulfilling life. I most often work with people who have experienced complex trauma, and struggle with addictive or out-of-control patterns as a result.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
