My role is to simply hold space for you. Create a safe environment and assist you in making sense of your story. The goal is to find balance between "what to hold on to" and "what to let go of". The evidenced based treatment approaches I use, assist with identifying and exploring underlying factors that continue to cause unwarranted anxiety, trauma, and depression. I am a certified Trust Based Relational Practitioner (TBRI), an attachment-based trauma informed interventionist, the focus is on meeting the complex needs of the vulnerable. It would be an honor to work with you.

The journey to healing and fulfillment is not always easy but with commitment, it is always worthwhile. It is my belief that with the right therapeutic alliance and the right environment, everyone can unpack their own emotional "bag." I seek to meet clients were they are emotionally and assist them in finding the core of their problems to move forward. I use a humanistic approach to assist clients to increase their awareness and to understand, express, and regulate their emotions. I come from a place of non-judgment, compassion, empathy, and honesty to provide observation, healthy coping skills, and a listening ear.

When working with my clients, I draw from multiple therapeutic styles including systemic approaches, polyvagal theory, attachment-based theories, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral theory.
Watch video bio on my website! When someone comes into my office, they are seeking change. Maybe you’re stuck in an ongoing trauma response that you just can’t shake. Maybe those you love the most have hurt you or you’ve hurt them. Perhaps you know logically how you’d like to interact with healthy sexuality, but your reality is far from that. I get all of that. I work with clients for these reasons and more. I help clients not only become unstuck, but find their lost, true self so they can walk in freedom and renewed relationships.

Now able to accept new clients again. Thanks for your patience! I will provide a safe place and work with you, beside you, as you work on defining/becoming your best self. Stuck? Change is difficult, but possible. There is no judgment here--lest I be judged. I believe everyone is doing the best they can with the tools they have. Many of us are just in need of additional tools. I believe we are products of our families of origin and carry forward what we learned from them--healthy or unhealthy. If you're stuck, I'd like to help you get unstuck. A sense of humor is a must.

My ideal client is seeking therapy for a traumatic event(s) in their life. They are needing a safe space to share their experience and as they share, they are needing a therapist to help them put emotions/words to their story. Their goals include learning grounding techniques to help them when they become triggered, being able to think about the event without become anxious/depressed. Also, this client will want to be able to process their feelings and emotions around the event. It is hard to experience healing from traumatic events when we aren't able to understand our emotions or when we are unable to tell our story.

As someone who values exploring her own depths, I know what it's like to sit in "the other chair," as therapists call it. I know it takes courage and trust to be vulnerable, to show your inner world to another. And I know it's easier when the therapist honors your pace while gently encouraging you to explore the edges of your growth. Helping you find the right balance at those edges is what I do: whether you're seeking something new, you're stuck, or you're overwhelmed. All are opportunities for us to listen more deeply to what you are needing.

I have over 20 years’ experience with adoptive families, children, and attachment. I am passionate about helping family, parents, and children navigate BIG changes in healthy ways. I understand first hand, being a parent of 6 beautiful adopted children myself, the challenges, emotions, fears, and successes that can come up along the way. I am skilled in attachment & view this as critical to understanding how people develop and navigate relationships. I consider myself an expert in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and can spot these symptoms and behaviors in both children and adults. Early intervention is KEY to successful outcomes.

“And how do you feel about that!?” ---Says every TV comedy-bit depicting therapy. In reality, it can be intimidating to share our true feelings with another person- especially with a (virtual) stranger. In therapy sessions, I therefore create a warm, safe, empathetic, non-judgmental, space to unpack your story. I view you as an expert on yourself and will encourage you to honor your own inner wisdom. I value processing your unique context and how intersectional identities and structures of oppression contribute to your distress.  My goal is to illuminate the root causes of your pain and to help guide you towards healing and growth.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
