My counseling approach incorporates trauma-informed & attachment-based theories.
Sometimes it may feel like the darkness threatens to overwhelm you. Counseling offers an opportunity to be seen and supported safely in hard places. I’ve learned from my clients, community, and personal experiences that even in these dark shadows, slivers of light can shine in. Beautiful things can grow there, too.

As a TBRI® Practitioner( TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children and adults.
We are all unique and so are the struggles we face daily. Being unique is great, yet there comes a time when we are faced with challenges, feeling stuck, frustrated, angry or simply misunderstood. It is during these times that it is beneficial to seek someone outside of that current situation for fresh insight, an objective perspective and a listening, non-judgmental ear. Sometimes an outsider looking in may be exactly what you need in order to identify and develop the best solution to meet your unique and individual needs. Life is full of ups and downs- in therapy we learn how to maneuver through the waves of life.

My ideal client is one who is ready for change. I don't know many people who change when they are comfortable. By the time an individual or couple walks into a counseling office, they are usually in enough discomfort with their current reality that they are ready to work towards something new. I want to join with clients to identify what is not working, the source of their discomfort, and help set them up for and walk with them into successful healing, change and overall health.

My work with clients is attachment-based.
We all experience ups and downs in our life. Sometimes we have good friends or family members that we can talk to who help us get through the difficult times. Other times we may need more help than those friends or family members can provide. If you find yourself at such a point in life, then I would be happy to talk with you and explain my services. A marriage and family therapist can help you identify the underlying issues and learn skills to promote healing and restoration of relationships.

Life can be hard! If you are struggling with challenges such as: marriage or relationship issues, infidelity, anxiety, depression, divorce, job loss, or low self-esteem maybe it is time to do something different. If your current efforts to deal with relationships, emotions, and life's challenges just aren't working, it is probably time to get some help. Maybe you're unsure if counseling really works. Counseling is no "magic pill" that instantly fixes your problems! However, it does help many people change, heal, and improve their quality of life.

Working in Mental Health for over 12 years, I've learned that people are literally trying to put the pieces of their life together just to make it through the day. Being sensitive to this, I've developed my practice model around the following quote, "We're only as strong as our weakest link; therefore, do your best to strengthen someone today!"

Emotional pain can leave us feeling anxious, depressed, and overwhelmed but I have great news! There is a path, a way out, for you to heal and experience peace and joy. You do not have to suffer anymore, white-knuckling it through most days, feeling hopeless and too broken to heal while wondering if your life will ever be fulfilling. I understand the dark nights of despair and how hard it is to reach out. So, I find you to be courageous, right here and now – taking a step to figure out if I can help. And the answer is ‘absolutely!’

Is it difficult to communicate your wants and needs to others, or even yourself? Do you feel like your relationships are not where you want them to be? When you find yourself going down different paths than you hoped for, it is okay to stop and ask for directions. If you are struggling with your self-thoughts, personal relationships, and/or marriage, I can help. The more I interact with others, the more I see the contradictions we often feel in our relationships.

As a therapist, I strive to hold safe space for you to feel understood and empowered while helping increase authentic self-expression, personal growth, self-awareness, and self-compassion. I am trained in brain-based therapies including Brainspotting and Somatic & Attachment Focused EMDR. These experiential approaches to therapy can be helpful in processing painful emotions and experiences and releasing patterns that no longer serve you. I have a special interest in performance work, grief, anxiety, healing from past hurts/trauma, and finding meaning and purpose in life’s experiences through introspective and mindful therapy work.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
