I work from a psychodynamic and attachment-based lens.
You're feeling overwhelmed by the racing thoughts in your mind. It's been difficult to trust yourself, set boundaries, and stick to them. That can be exhausting and probably has you feeling under-appreciated, resentful, and burnt out! Imagine what it might feel like to be more grounded and resourced in your body and mind. Imagine feeling more confident in your voice and speaking about your needs. I enjoy supporting women and queer folks to lead a more integrated and aligned life. If any of this resonates with you, we might be a good fit :)

These include somatic, psychodynamic, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, attachment-based, and emotion-focused orientations.
There are many reasons that people seek out the support of a therapist. Maybe you feel overwhelmed, alone, anxious, or disconnected from life, those around you, and yourself. You may be struggling with a particular issue, or find yourself in a chapter of life that has you longing for more. Perhaps you're at a point where life feels ok, and yet, there’s a sense that more connection, growth, expression and fulfillment may be possible for you. Whatever it is that has brought you here, welcome. I'm so glad you're here.

I believe that our experiences in life are reflected in our behaviors, shape our thoughts, are held in our bodies, and trigger our emotions often outside of our consciousness. Increasing awareness at all levels allows us to have access to more choices in our lives. I see the goal of psychotherapy is to help people find a place in them where it feels safe, loving, and truthful, accessing their authentic selves. To facilitate this process, I explore with clients their thoughts and belief systems, behaviors, feelings, and physical sensations, helping to connect and integrate the mind, body and spirit.

One of the bravest things we can do in life is to seek help when we need it most. It can be difficult to carry our struggles alone, and a true relief to have someone help to hold them. I work with clients experiencing a range of concerns including trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, school or career issues, navigating parenting, life transitions, family conflict, identity development, discrimination, and existential distress. No matter what is bringing you to therapy right now, the key is a desire and readiness to evolve and to grow. This is what can lead to true healing, and the discovery of your full potential.

You’re stuck in relationships or jobs that don’t bring you joy, and you want to break out of your patterns to embrace something new. Wishing you could find some peace of mind, but your self-critic runs the show. When you try to find the courage to speak up for yourself, your values, and your dreams, your voice gets caught in your throat. You feel disconnected from your vibrant, authentic self, and want to find your way back.

I am a truama centered, queer therapist incorporating the body, family systems and collective liberation. I center the relational experience and hope for therapy to be a place to feel supported to encounter all the parts of yourself. I view therapy as a place to feel and be felt, a place that can hold unknown territory. I also believe that your body knows what it needs even if for a multitude of reasons there is a not knowing. I show up with humility and curiosity to meet you where you are and approach therapy as a collaborative process.

I am passionate about helping couples and individuals uncover the source of their emotional suffering and identify new strategies for adjusting to painful life events. I am concerned with the way our significant relationships, both early-on and in adulthood, impact how we experience the present. I collaborate with couples to identify unmet attachment needs driving disconnection in relationships and facilitate expression of these needs so partners can reconnect and feel secure in their relationships. My work with individuals promotes self-acceptance and value-driven action.

Sometimes life feels overwhelming. It can feel like we are fighting against unmovable forces or desperately treading water to stay afloat. Whether we zone out and lose energy, or become hyper anxious in response to our troubles, our nervous system takes over to protect us. When this happens we may find ourselves engaging in behaviors or thought patterns that aren't actually serving us, but keeping us stuck in a loop. Whether you are dealing with issues around anxiety, perfectionism, control, self-esteem, body image, relationships, co-dependency, boundary setting, trauma, stress, depression, or grief, somatic therapy can help.

Hello, my name is Gina Nuñez. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Therapist and a Complex PTSD therapist. Complex PTSD stems from trauma over a long period, i.e., child abuse/neglect. Trauma is a mental and physical imprint caused by extreme stress. Your fight, flight or freeze response is often activated if you live with trauma. Your body, mind, and emotions remain on high alert. When trauma goes untreated, it can lead to low self-esteem and a negative outlook on life, yourself, and others. I can help you overcome your negative past to build a positive future. My email page on the website stopped working, so email me.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
