My approach to therapy is integral; I work from an attachment and trauma informed lens with a deep grounding in relational psychoanalytic theory. I have experience with treating depression and anxiety, low self-esteem, questions of gender and sexuality, complex family dynamics, relationship issues, chronic pain, and grief work. My wish it to foster a therapeutic space that feels both challenging as well as safe so that we can work together to meet your treatment goals. In our work together I may bring in mindfulness techniques, parts work, attachment theory, dream work, movement, and myth.

I utilize a wide variety of evidenced-based treatments alongside holistic interventions tailored to the individual or family to help them get from where they are to where they want to be. I work with my clients to accomplish this change by first addressing foundational basics of mental health, working together to address underlying stressors and trauma, and implementing life-changing daily practices to achieve a greater level of functioning. I offer an integrative approach utilizing CBT, ACT, DBT, polyvagal exercises, Somatic Experiencing, attachment-based neuro-affirmative care, person-centered therapy, and psychodynamic theory.

Clinical psychotherapy is a process of deepening self awareness and strengthening authenticity. The subtle art of therapy occurs by taking an honest look at emotional patterns and behaviors, and understanding and liberating any shame that exists at the core which frequently fuels mental health disorders. I specialize in working with teens and their families, and am trained in EMDR and Attachment Based Family Therapy. I have been in practice for over 10 years in this community. The gift of psychotherapy is the ability to be in charge of ourselves with confidence, emotional intelligence, and deep inner peace.

My therapeutic approach mainly focuses on helping my clients identify their strengths to help alleviate anxiety, depression, and trauma. I am a firm believer that our childhood experiences contribute to our beliefs, behavioral patterns, and selecting a romantic partner. Therapy is a process! To allow ourselves to be intimate and vulnerable with someone about our experiences and trauma can be daunting. As a therapist, it is my goal to help validate, create a safe environment and help understand aspects of lived experiences.

I believe that people are resilient and resourceful, capable of overcoming difficulties. Sometimes we get entangled in personal and relational patterns that can overwhelm our resources. I help clients identify these problematic patterns and empower them to break free from patterns that do not serve them well. I focus on my client's interpersonal relationships and relationships with larger social systems. I have experience working with children, teens, families, and couples on several issues, including family and couple distress, trauma, and various presentations of anxiety and depression through a systemic and attachment-based lens.

The road to inner freedom begins with the decision to not walk alone. Inviting the right support helps you gain insights to reach your goals and destiny. You may be dealing with past trauma, depression, anxiety, or low self-esteem, or looking to find a life-partner, preparing for marriage, or seeking to enrich existing relationships. Whatever your path, I invite you to reach out and let me walk with you. Meet me at my office, or from the comfort of your home via video counseling.

I believe therapy should feel like a deep and rich conversation. I am not the type of therapist who only sits and listens. I support my clients, most of whom self identify as women, in managing anxiety and perfectionism, reevaluating unwanted habits and ways of coping, building communication skills and boundaries to help relationships thrive, and making big life decisions. I believe therapy can help you build the self-awareness it takes to make different choices that move you closer to equilibrium.

Something just feels "off". You are exhausted from looping in thoughts and patterns that are no longer serving you. You are overwhelmed by the state of things....the anxiety just won't go away, the grief is too much, the challenge is too big, the relationship is too far gone.... you secretly fear that you don't have what it takes to make the change you desire. Together we will uncover pain, fears and unmet desires that drive the spiral. We will rediscover and utilize your strengths to create a life that reflects your values.

It's hard to be a person. Nobody goes through life without pain and struggle. We carry our experiences, whether difficult or traumatic, in ways that shape how we relate to ourselves, to our thoughts and feelings, our hopes and fears, and to the other people in our lives. We are often unaware of how these internal structures shape our lives in the present moment. Psychotherapy offers an environment, a method, and a therapeutic relationship with which to understand and transform how we experience ourselves and the world around us.

I provide contemporary psychoanalytic psychotherapy, focusing on individuals grappling with anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges, and with an emphasis on queer, trans and non-binary experiences. My approach integrates a keen understanding of queer and gender issues, recognizing the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in these contexts. I believe that our psychological symptoms are deeply connected to our early experiences, family histories, and the broader societal systems we inhabit, including those related to race and gender identity, class, and sexual orientation. I also offer EMDR for trauma and phobias.

Seeking support is an act of courage and strength. Life can be inherently stressful and sometimes can feel overwhelming. We will work together first to address your current symptoms and alleviate your suffering. As you begin to feel better, we can then shift into working with longer term patterns and challenges. As you embark on this journey, I offer a mindful, compassionate and collaborative container for our process together.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
