Life can be complicated. These complications know no economic, age, sex, religious, or racial boundary. As a practitioner working with individuals to empower them is my passion and privilege. If you are currently working to navigate through a difficult time we can work together to set goals, realize and regain your strengths to develop a long-term plan for success. There are times when everyone needs to strengthen his or her coping skills, see the situation from another view, or simply say it aloud.

I believe healthy relationships are imperative to growth, change, and healing. I work to facilitate a space where clients can be their authentic and vulnerable selves. I place the therapeutic relationship first, and as rapport is built I work with clients to process attachment wounds, emotional dysregulation, and relational patterns.

Oftentimes we find ourselves in need of help walking through all that life throws at us. Whether it's processing past trauma or pain, feeing stuck or overwhelmed, or simply trying to put one foot in front of the other, being able to be honest about our deepest pain, needs, and the reality of life, can be both transformative and healing.

My hope is to help create a space where you can express yourself authentically and without fear of shame or judgement. I understand how difficult it is to ask for help, and take the time needed to explore your own thoughts, feelings, and actions. My goal is to help you explore thinking patterns, and how they play into some of the emotional hurt and discomfort. I want to help build on your strengths, while moving towards a place of vulnerability.

If you're struggling with the ways in which you move through the world, whether that be through your own sense of self, within your interpersonal relationships or due to a more specific hardship you've experienced - let's talk. I'd love to help you become a better version of yourself!

As I think about how change occurs for a person, I am struck by the recognition that life is full of opportunities for change, for individual growth. Sometimes these opportunities are not clear to the person because the trauma, personal or relational difficulty, fear, depression, or anxiety being experienced can be so overwhelming that one's ability to take action is clouded. In my work, I have become very mindful of the resiliency of the human spirit. I have witnessed this resiliency in times of trauma, pain, and loss. My goal is to provide you with a safe space to address your concerns.

Change is possible in all of us, even when it seems like we have been stuck in place for as long as we can remember. I believe that life happens, and there are circumstances that are out of our control that can cause us great pain and difficulties. These circumstances do not have to define who we are or how we live. I believe through a therapeutic relationship people can heal and lives can be improved. Together we will work towards building a safe and comfortable environment to allow change to begin.

Life can sneak up on you, often looking much different than you had intended. Sometimes these differences are hard to navigate and understand. As a clinician, it is my privilege and responsibility to help you learn how to navigate these situations. Most individuals are much stronger and more resilient than they give themselves credit for. We can work together using your own strengths to identify hopes and goals for treatment, and find realistic approaches to working toward these goals. You have the tools within yourself to achieve your goals; I will help guide and strengthen these tools.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
