Are you feeling frustrated and confused by your closest relationships? Do you find yourself stuck in familiar negative patterns, in your relationships or your own habits? While our greatest heartaches often come to us in the form of relationships, they can also be the doorway to providing healing and reparative experiences. Sometimes we need another calm and caring presence to help us express our emotions, to gain clarity where we have confusion, and fumble our way forward out of the stuck places. Therapy can provide a healing relationship, a place to receive attentive and non-judgemental listening, and hope for a better tomorrow.

Do you feel powerless to be the kind of person that you yearn to be? Have the Youtube, social media, or other screen-based rabbit holes gone too far and yet also feel like the only place you seem to be able to find solace from the stress in your life? Perhaps you’ve discovered yourself having reactions and relational patterns that sabotage the closeness you long for with others. Or maybe you simply desire to know more about who you were truly made to be so that you can authentically navigate your current season of life. If any of this resonates with you, I want you to know that you are not alone and that there is hope.

I am passionate about working with children, teens, & adults who are experiencing symptoms of overwhelm/anxiety, trauma, grief, depression, anger, behavioral issues, ADHD, sensory processing issues, bullying, or low self-worth. I have been working with children, teens, adults, & families in various settings for 25+ years. Most of the clients I work with are between the ages of 3 to 13. The majority of the statements or concerns I hear are my child is very anxious, struggling with impulsivity, having anger outbursts, or is unmotivated. I also provide care and compassion for parents as they walk through this journey with their child.

You have hopes and desires for your life but you feel held back by anxiety, depression, guilt, or relationship struggles. You can’t explain where these feelings are coming from, but they follow you into each day. Chances are that you came to my profile because you are struggling or hurting in some way and you truly desire to find the exact right person to assist you in getting some relief. I deeply believe you are not sick trying to get well but instead hurt trying to heal. Therapy is such a vulnerable, personal experience and it can be difficult determining which therapist is the right therapist for your specific needs by just looking at a profile. It is my honor to assist each unique human being on their very individualized path as I am just as passionate today as 37 years ago. You might be able to do alone but you don’t have to. Anymore.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
