Together, we can figure out why you do the things you do, what you are feeling and why, and close the gaps between the blank spots in understanding, feeling, and doing so that you can inhabit your life and your self more fully. My aim is to help you feel free enough to express all that is inside without judgment, inattention, or finality, so that you can experience yourself and your feelings, including joy, pain, and everything in between, with equanimity, curiosity, and increased aliveness.

Do you feel you're at an inflection point in your life? That you've worked hard, but your effort has also taken a toll: be it burnout, anxiety, a sense of emptiness, or difficulty with relationships you care about? That, no matter how much you have achieved, those feelings of inadequacy are still nagging at you? My goal is to help you take charge: to put your "inner critic" in its place – and achieve a genuine, sustainable sense of well-being.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Brooklyn, NY. I bring compassion, a strong skill set, and warmth to every person I treat. I strive to create an environment of comfort and safety as these are crucial for psychological growth and healing. One of the most important predictors of successful therapy is the relationship between the client and the therapist. My style is interactive and, perhaps most importantly, it is collaborative. Above all else, I work flexibly to meet each individual's needs.

I'm an integrative psychotherapist primarily practicing EMDR with a focus on trauma/PTSD, severe mental illness and other emotional distress, including experiences related to racial identity and sexual orientation. I'm curious about you; there is no judgment about your past, your perceptions, or your feelings. My foundation is in trauma work & attachment theory, where we look at relationships and experiences and how they may affect you today: the social and cultural settings we're in, how the way we identify ourselves and the way others identify us impacts your sense of safety, how we are perceived, and what opportunities we have.

My concept of therapy is thinking together with someone about their experiences and their relationships in a compassionate and respectful environment. You can expect our work together to uncover what’s missing in the ways you know and understand yourself. My training is in psychoanalysis, which engages with what is not yet known in the unconscious and brings you to a deeper understanding of your felt experience. Having a witness to support putting language to your process is a powerful part of healing. “The words are purposes. The words are maps.” -Adrienne Rich

Starting therapy is a leap of faith at a time when hope is scarce. It is an act of courage. I prioritize symptom relief and stabilization, but I believe that lasting change and growth stem from a deeper understanding of our histories, relationships, internal worlds, and motivations. I work best with people who are willing to take a risk and become curious about their own complexity. I believe social and political environments, genetic predispositions, and intergenerational histories all interact to manifest our challenges and gifts. Ideally, my clients would be open to uncovering the many unconscious forces at play in their lives.

I'm a psychologist who works with children, adolescents and adults, specializing in loss, trauma and family issues, in English and Spanish. I use integrative, strengths and evidenced-based therapy. I believe that humans are inherently wired for resilience. In particular contexts, our once healthy coping skills may prevent us from returning to our adaptive core. In therapy, I urge patients to learn to experience and tolerate emotions, access instinctive coping capacities and build a flexible mindset. This method allows patients to uncover strengths, and deepen their sense of hope, leading lives filled with vitality and exuberance.

Each of our paths forward are nuanced, complicated, and can be difficult to navigate alone. I believe therapy is a space that can help us better understand our past experiences and relationships, and see the role they play in our current perspectives on the world and ourselves. Every client can expect to be met with compassion, warmth, and curiosity as we explore your history, identify patterns and behaviors, define boundaries, and move into growth and lasting change.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
