Thank you for clicking on my page! I welcome you as a possible client. Therapy is a wonderful opportunity to grow and develop. Taking the risk of exploring ourselves can be really meaningful. I use several different models of therapy, including EMDR, DBT and IFS to help clients get to know themselves better, connect to their inner child and ultimately heal.

In my many years of advanced study and clinical work I have developed a practical, solution-oriented approach to mental health treatment. I believe that no one treatment model or therapeutic approach works for everyone. My extensive experience and rigorous training have enabled me to integrate numerous approaches to tailor treatments to the needs of each client's unique experiences and circumstances. I blend numerous therapeutic models and approaches- or stick to just one- depending on the person I am working with and the goals they have for our work together.

With over a decade of experience as a social worker, I utilize a compassionate therapeutic approach to create a safe and supportive space for people of all life stages that want personal growth, emotional well-being, and relationship success. My practice has a strong focus on families, parents and children looking for support managing developmental, behavioral and emotional needs. I also draw on this expertise as a foundation in my work with individuals - after all – we were all children once and our original family systems have a profound impact on how we manage life stressors, navigate trauma, and function in relationships.

I believe in emotional health. Having emotions is as natural as your appetite, and that having emotional difficulties is as human as experiencing hunger; Processing our emotions in therapy is as necessary as any other visit to a doctor: either for a check-up, when there are initial symptoms, or once the problem has already manifested and is making our life somehow dysfunctional. I avoid labels or focusing on pathology; instead, I concentrate on helping my clients to overcome the doubts, difficulties, or challenges that get in the way of a calm, stable, and fulfilling life.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
