Some days are better than others, but there’s an ongoing theme in your life of feeling discouraged and overwhelmed. You find yourself frequently worrying about how you will stay on top of all your responsibilities, and sometimes worrying about things that you know are out of your hands. When you stop and reflect, you know you used to have real closeness with your partner or other important people in your life, but it’s getting harder to remember that actual feeling. You’re drained by how much you seem to give of yourself but don’t feel hopeful about anything changing soon.

**Availability may be limited** Most people experience challenges in life and painful moments that can seem difficult to understand and get through. However, I believe with the right supports, we are capable and worthy of healing and resiliency. I knew from an early age I was passionate about helping people find ways to recover from adversity and develop a stronger sense of self, meaning, and happiness. I firmly believe feeling comfortable and understood is essential to the outcome of therapy. I take a compassionate yet direct stance, and strive to act as a coach and active partner in helping individuals reach their goals.

My approach to treatment is very client-centered - people enter treatment at various stages of readiness and I am here to meet you wherever you may be. I understand the nuances of beginning therapy, meeting a new therapist, setting goals, sharing personal information, and ironing out your biggest concerns - even when you feel unsure. My hope is to help each client unlock their sources of happiness and hope so they can confront whatever challenges they are facing - mood issues, anxiety, substance issues, family dynamic concerns, trauma, interpersonal relationship issues, school-related problems, self-harm, gender issues, etc.

Not accepting new clients
"It's a good day to have a good day". This quote hangs in my office and serves as a reminder that you can take control of your day and how it is perceived. Today is a new beginning and an opportunity for change. Therapy isn't about being told what to do and using a "one size fits all" approach to happiness. It's about guiding you to discover what you need and working together to meet your goals.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
