With over 30 years of experience in providing mental health services, my approach integrates varied perspectives in supporting people in finding relief from emotional and relational pain. Symptoms are often expressing deeper experiences that have wounded your sense of trust in yourself, in others, in life in general, and may have left you struggling with knowing your own sense of meaning, purpose, and hope. My counseling philosophy is rooted in the belief that the client is the expert in their own life and that each person has an innate ability to grow and change. Therapy is a process that can help you identify unresolved issues that impact your access to that ability. Before beginning my time as a counselor I worked with individuals and families as a teacher, and by serving on the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board and the Los Alamos New Mexico Board of Education. Through that work, I saw the impact that empathy and mental health professionals can make in the lives of individuals, families and communities.

My professional background includes working with couples, individuals, families, special education population, extensive experience in working with families building upon their natural support along with individuals and couples from all different walks of life. I gained my experience in the clinical field working in a high-school setting, and community mental health outreach program.

My theoretical approach to counseling enlists pieces of cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and interpersonal psychotherapy. With evidence-based treatment practices, the client can learn new methods of coping with mental health distress. One main area of focus is the treatment of trauma. Too often, clients have attended counseling with no relief of symptoms and have revealed that the trauma they experienced was unaddressed. As a Certified Trauma Specialist, I am passionate about helping clients heal from traumatic experiences.
