My primary interest is treating different aspects of trauma and Post Traumatic Stress disorder in adults and children. Trauma takes us out of our window of tolerance where we function optimally and either leads to a fight or flight response or dissociative numbness. It can also lead to a repetition compulsion when we repeat various aspects of the original trauma or redirected aggression treating others like those who caused us harm. I have a great understanding of trauma especially related to attachment disorders in children such as Reactive Attachment Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder as well as PTSD in adults

Let me introduce myself. I have been a psychologist for more than 35 years, specializing in autistic spectrum disorders working from school age though adulthood, and with couples who are struggling with spectrum related marital and parenting issues. I also treat behavior disorders, separation and divorce, school adjustment and refusal, social skills problems, and family relationships. As a former teacher, supervisor, program director, clinical director and as a psychologist, I have enthusiastically worked with children my entire life. I have been the leading provider of socialization groups for children with ADHD, Anxiety, and Autistic Spectrum Disorder in Monmouth County for the past 20 years. Every child can learn ways to interact positively with other children. By using a combination of play therapy, dance/movement therapy, and cognitive-behavioral strategies in the groups, children learn to be successful with their peers. I offer individual counseling sessions on parenting issues and for those children that need help with selective mutism, anxiety, and specific behavior issues not applicable to the group situation.

I have always loved listening to people and helping them through all kinds of feelings stemming from losses, to relationships and family, to physical pain and emotional pain. My fascination in the mind, lead me into training as a therapist 22 years ago and have not stopped. I continue to want to know more about theories in psychoanalysis, art therapy and counseling. Understanding the intricacies and complexities of being human has been my life's work. I believe the act of talking about every part of ones life, in the presence of a therapist with an open ear and who’s able to understand ones emotional needs is curative in its self.

Social Skills Groups and Counseling for Kids is a private counseling center where Sandra Singer, PhD and Claudia Weiss, LCSW provide group and individual services for children ages 4-13. As licensed therapists who developed a comprehensive school based counseling program, we bring a wealth of experience in child development, behavioral disorders and group work to the private setting. We believe that children learn best when actively engaged in fun and creative activities.

As a learning disabled man, I am honored to work with neurodivergent and neurotypical people.
