Gestalt therapists work on helping to reprogram self-sabotaging patterns and belief systems. This work can be applied to improving relationships, health, motivation, goal achievement, and self-actualization. It is a very gentle process and results are fast and dynamic! I am also trained in Psychedelic harm reduction and integration.

I'm Courtney Copell, founder of Compass Counseling Services of South Louisiana. It is my mission to provide the best and most thorough care to my clients and their families. I founded my practice on the belief that each client is unique and deserves comprehensive and individualized care. I believe that in order to experience optimal health, every component of the individual must be considered. Working with children, youth and their families is a passion of mine. While all children experience challenges in life, some children have a more difficult time overcoming these challenges. I am a licensed psychologist specializing in work with children from infancy through adolescence on issues affecting social, emotional, and academic performance. As a child and adolescent psychologist, I help children understand their feelings and how to express their feelings in healthy ways. I work collaboratively with families to improve children's self-esteem, emotion regulation, and social skills with a treatment plan customized to each child.

Recovery of any form is a part of the human condition. As a therapist, I look at recovery as a journey that I assist in. I work with folks who are wanting to learn more about themselves, and further a personal recovery identity. This includes (but is not exclusive too), eating disorders and substance use disorders.

I have 20 years experience working with adults, children, and families. I use a variety of therapeutic techniques, including cognitive/behavioral therapy, insight oriented treatment, and solution focused counseling. I am also trained in EMDR which helps clients to process trauma memories and often helps when a client feels "stuck" in a particular phase of therapy. I have worked as an Early Intervention Specialist in the school system for 19 years. I have extensive training in play therapy, using both directive and non-directive techniques

My ideal client is someone with the passion to make their life better. They may have lived through trauma, are struggling with grief, and/or just need an empathetic ear.
