I have worked with children, teens, and adults for 20 years and am honored that each person has chosen to share their life with me. I have over 25 years working in the field of psychology. I believe that the key to most emotional and psychological problems lies in relationships, those in the past and in the present. I believe conscious and unconscious behavior patterns can cause difficulties in life, and these behavior problems can be changed or modified. My approach is eclectic , and I use various modalities within a psychodynamic framework. I am also trained as a trauma specialist and EMDR therapist. I believe trauma can keep people stuck in behaviors and emotional dysfunction and EMDR is a highly effective way of reprocessing "stuck" trauma.

Have you been told that you need to work harder or be more committed to therapy in order to make progress? That if you would just not be 'resistant', then you would make progress? I believe that if you're faithfully going to therapy and not making progress, it's very likely that you're working on the wrong thing. Instead of figuring out and addressing the root of the problem, you're likely trying to deal with the symptoms of the problem. Like treating cough and congestion when you really should be dealing with the pneumonia that's causing those issues.

Alison has over 14 years of experience in counseling those suffering from a variety of issues including mood disorders such as grief, anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder as well as behavior disorders such as Impulse Control and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. She has also worked extensively with children who have been abused and neglected and suffer from the trauma they endured in the formative years of their life.
