Hi there! My name is Amberly Ellis and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist. I approach counseling from an integrative, attachment-based, and interpersonal neurobiology lens, recognizing the link between behavior, the nervous system, and interpersonal connection. I believe the behaviors children and teens display are merely their way of communicating a need - a need to connect, a need to be known, a need to be heard, and a need for felt safety. It is my goal to not just help my clients “fix the problem,” but to help build understanding, connection, and a victorious mind.

I am a clinical psychologist with over 25 years' experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. Many of my clients have more than one psychological issue, such as Depression/Mood issues, ADHD, Anxiety, OCD, PTSD, Tourette's, Social Skill deficits, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, and Relationship difficulties.

I work collaboratively with clients, finding the next best step for them to take to handle challenges and roadblocks in life. I get great satisfaction watching my clients improve their life through short or long-term therapy. I help children and adolescents reach their academic/social potential with the parents' support. I advocate for students with navigation of EiP’s/504’s and RTI. Other areas of expertise include grief/loss, stress, anxiety, self-esteem and relationship issues for children, teens and adults. I teach social skills to those dealing with Asperger's Syndrome and work with youth at risk for sexual exploitation.

I specialize in assisting neurodivergent youths and adults as they navigate their unique experiences and learn to integrate into society. While I work with children, I believe in the power of working specifically with parents as individuals as they work on the many layers of their identity and their own unique challenges that often go overlooked. Those grappling with self-judgement and doubt, people pleasing tendencies, emotional regulation challenges, and interpersonal difficulties often find a safe space. I see children/adults who may be unconventional, anxious, depressed or do not fit comfortably within their environment. The label “disability” may be applied to them, but “differently abled” is more accurate.

I have Bachelor’s in both English Literature and Psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and earned Master’s in both Clinical Community Counseling and School Counseling at University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, where I now moonlight as an adjunct professor of Family Counseling for their graduate program. I have been practicing for 14 years, specializing in CBT, music therapy, art therapy, play therapy, family therapy, individual therapy, and alternative therapies.
