I have provided counseling services in several different settings since 1996. I began my career as an Elementary School Counselor, I have worked as a Family Counselor in an addictions program, and as a Child and Adolescent Counselor in a community mental health center. I took some time off in order to be with my two children full-time. After my children entered school, I decided to resume my professional career and went into private practice.

I treat a variety of issues such as PTSD, ADHD, ODD, OCD, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideations, self-esteem issues, substance use, trauma, and behavioral issues. I strive to help children/teens becoming caring, loving, functional adults with a positive self-image and healthy emotional expression. In my work with adolescents, I help them to achieve life goals, build self-esteem, and healthy peer relationships. For adults with substance use I work with the client to find a path to sobriety by treating the underlying cause, using their inner strengths to support them.

I have always enjoyed working with children, adolescents, and their families. As a licensed psychologist, I currently specialize in the comprehensive assessment of intellectual disabilities, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and anxiety for children through age 7 years. It is important for me that there is family, school, and child involvement in the assessment process in order to gather as much information as possible to best support the families in which I see. Sarah believes that each client is the author of his or her own life experiences, and has the capability of maneuvering and pushing forward through circumstances in life. She recognizes it can be difficult and scary learning and implementing the tools needed to accomplish fears and worries. "It's like exercising a new muscle. It may hurt and get sore by working-out, but the muscle grows stronger the more effort you put into working on it." She has extensively researched the concept of empathy to help clients work through their trauma to develop secure attachment styles as well as understanding perspectives and co-dependency actions.

Dr. Cantor obtained his Masters and Doctorates in Psychology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook with special interests in Developmental Neuropsychology. He is trained in Clinical Psychopharmacology and holds Diplomates from the American Board of Forensic Examiners, International Academy of Behavioral Medicine, Counseling, and Psychotherapy, and Fellow Status of the Academy of Learning and Developmental Disorders, and the American Board of Psychological Specialties - Neuropsychology, and the National Acadenmy of Neuropsychology. He is a specialist with Developmental Disorder such as ADHD and Autism, Neurotrauma, Biological factors underlying Depression, and Forensics.

My main focus is to help clients identify and build on their personal strengths so they can overcome the obstacles preventing them from realizing their full potential. My first priority when I meet with a client is to collaboratively establish therapy goals and determine what they would like to attain from the counseling process. Based on this information I personalize each session to help my clients achieve their goals. With every interaction, my goal is always the same: that you leave my office feeling that you were heard and validated.

I am enthusiastic about working with those motivated to begin their counseling journey. In my previous career as a teacher, I developed effective skills for working with children, adolescents, and adults. I typically work with teens and adults who struggle to adjust after experiencing trauma, particularly sexual trauma and interpersonal violence. I am deeply passionate about working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community through coming out, life transitions, and marital and couples issues. Additionally, I enjoy working through issues of interpersonal relationships, depression, anxiety, and with adults with ADHD and/or Autism.
