A responsible social practitioner, I provide psychological care, and services using American Sign Language (ASL). I work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, including various populations that encompass sign language users. My interests center on developing tailored, specific psychotherapy applications that benefit the patients with hearing losses. Much of my work places an emphasis on the importance of "courageous will" to empower individuals to make choices that are useful and practical.

I have extensive experience in working with adolescents and adults. I often work with people who have experienced or currently are experiencing a wide variety of concerns. Some of these include depression, anxiety, loss and grief, transitions and other life stages, job dissatisfaction, low self esteem, histories of past abuse, divorce, parenting issues, ADD/ADHD, and issues connected with gender, sexuality or teenage pregnancy. I am supportive, direct and like to use humor. I often utilize a pragmatic approach in which you learn specific tools to deal with negative and stressful thoughts that often run through your mind.

Currently full but can help match Deaf people to therapists. My approach is integrative and primarily informed by EMDR therapy. I prioritize remaining person-centered and trauma informed, which basically just means that our sessions are about you and what you want and that I avoid pathologizing behaviors and feelings that could be the result of a traumatic experience. I look at therapy through a social justice and anti-oppression lens. I believe counseling should offer a safe, non-judgmental opportunity to explore and discover a path to your own place of peace. Change can be difficult - but with support it becomes possible. You might be struggling with difficult thoughts like "what if my family never accepts my life choices - will they ever accept me?" Perhaps you're battling indecisiveness and fear about whether you're "good enough" to succeed, preventing you from reaching your aspirations and goals? Or maybe you feel confident and successful at times, but at other moments as if your shield for taking on the world is paper-thin? I utilize methods including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help resolve these concerns.

Individuals, couples and families are all seen as my ideal client. I typically see clients from the ages of 13 and up, but I do make some exceptions. Clients who are having difficulties with communicating their emotions, identifying their strengths and their core self, or having dysfunctional dyadic or family patterns are clients who I know I can help. Clients coming regularly and genuinely working with me to accomplish the goals we set out at the beginning of therapy are ideal. I work with individuals who are noticing a change in themselves through life transition, relationship loss, grief symptoms, feeling sadness 'when everything seems fine.' I work with clients who are experiencing long established triggers and grief symptoms through gentleness, safety, and respect for defenses. I have faith in the natural tendency of humans to grow toward healing and integration of mind, body, and spirit.

I enjoy employing creative mediums in the therapeutic process to include symbolic (Jungian), artistic, musical and written expression. Being deaf, I have a strong desire to help other deaf and hard of hearing people but this doesn't limit me from working with hearing people too. My clients are struggling to fit in in a world that's constantly changing and sometimes seems out to get us all. The focus of my private practice is on parents who need support navigating the demands of parenting. These challenges can be related to a number of factors including parent mental health, a child with more challenging behaviors, difficulties between parents, and/or navigating the multiple daily demands parents experience.
