Hi! My name is Christina Burke I am a Deaf Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) in Washington D.C. and Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in Maryland. I provide psychological care and services to people who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, late deafened and cochlear implant user in American Sign Language (ASL). My practical applications are mainly done through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Gestalt Therapy. It is natural to experience interpersonal dilemmas, workplace struggles or domestic stressors and need help identifying ways to balance those and engage in self-care.

My ideal client would be someone who is willing to give therapy a chance. To explore various aspects of their life, who they are, and who they are wanting to become. My idea caseload would consist of a variety of issues, so as long as the client is wanting to be an active agent in their therapy then they would be my ideal. Their goals would consist of wanting to feel congruent with with their beliefs and how they are living their life. Whether that be reducing symptoms of depression, developing coping skills, improving communication, regaining their power, identity, and authenticity.

I believe that many of the problems individuals face can be worked through by gaining increased insight and knowledge about oneself. I also believe individuals heal themselves and often just need an objective, caring presence to help them take the first step. I specialize in both therapy and psychological assessment and frequently works with psychiatrists, primary care physicians, OB/GYNs, and other physicians in the collaborative treatment of patients.
