I specialize in working with teens and adults with eating disorders (Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, and general disordered eating). I offer both assessment (helping you figure out if you or your loved has an issue with food) and treatment (helping you or your loved one get well) I offer both individual and family sessions. More simply said, my goal is to empower clients to live life on their terms, not an eating disorder’s terms.

Empathy and compassion are foundational in my practice. I focus on creating a space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered. I believe that clients should be able to bring their whole selves into their sessions without fearing judgement or a lack of compassion. Together, my hope is that we can build a therapeutic relationship that invites you to take a step back and reflect, knowing you are being supported.

As the Greek Philosopher, Heraclitus, stated, "The only constant in life is change." We all experience transitions in life, but we do not need to go through them alone. Similar to hiring an architect when building a house, or a personal trainer when working on fitness goals, my role is to assist you in navigating your way through the twists and turns of life's transitions.

My private practice is strength-based and focused extensively on neuropsychological testing and intervention. I approach my work by focusing on 'islands of competence' to improve self-esteem around learning, work and performance . I work with children, adolescents and adults who have multiple or tough-to-diagnose issues. In other words, I specialize in complex cases. My focus is on "intervention plans" that are personalized for your needs, comprehensive and effective. You will not only find out what things you need help with, but your strengths will be recognized as well. Please visit our website at www.CNLD.org.

I strongly believe that connecting with nature has a positive influence on both the body and the mind. My private practice is located in a farmhouse built in 1850, set on 10 acres of land with walking trails, outdoor sitting areas and gardens. I have six dwarf pygmy goats, Billy, Marigold, Juniper, Ivy, Finn and Scout that live on the property, as well as several chickens. My dog Quincy often participates in sessions, and enjoys chasing the goats if given the opportunity. Many of my clients find it therapeutic to interact with the animals, or simply sit outside feeling the sunshine and listening to the birds sing during a session.

Some challenges in life we hide and avoid, and over time those challenges only grow and become more disruptive. Feelings of shame and fear can hold us back from seeking support and solutions. Do you wish you could experience more pleasure, intimacy, and joy? Is a past trauma impacting your ability to connect with others and holding you back from living a full life? Psychotherapy can provide space to explore, gain insight, and establish knowledge and skills that allow you to live a more fulfilling life.

Using an integrative, strength-based approach, I draw on a rich variety of practices to work collaboratively with my clients to meet their individual needs and goals. I believe that we all face life challenges with a strong need for connection and acceptance. It can often feel like we are alone and vulnerable in the search for well being lacking a safe anchor of support. Therapy can provide an opportunity to develop a solid sense of self-acceptance in identifying and actualizing our individual gifts and inherent worthiness to live our fullest, most rewarding lives.

I use a strength based, collaborative, and mindful approach during treatment. I practice from a trauma and attachment based lens bringing mindfulness and curiosity into each session. For over 15 years, I have been successfully working with children, youth and families. Together we will explore past and current stressors and how these experiences have impacted habits and coping styles with an understanding that each of us adapts the best that we can to obstacles in life. We will look at areas in your life where you are feeling stuck and explore what you need to move forward.

My favorite clients are the ones who are ready to take control of their own lives and they are ready to take their power back. They want to be happy and experience freedom in all areas of their lives and are done making excuses. My clients strive to become better people and live happy and fulfilling lives after breaking the barriers of old belief systems and barriers that were holding them back. By working together, it's possible to reclaim lost fragments of yourself and transform back into wholeness. My clients (individuals and couples) report finding freedom to be who they are, love for themselves, and alignment in purpose.

We all are facing challenging situations in our lives, however it can be tremendously helpful if we have a therapist who can provide a trusting relationship in order to resolve those difficult moments. As a therapist, I can support and help clients with an objective and wider perspective. Given my previous clinical experiences of more than 15 years as a medical doctor and psychiatrist in South Korea, I am able to diagnose and approach mental health issues in the best scientific way possible by using a psychiatric knowledge base.

Hi! Thank you for looking over my page! I enjoy working with teens and adults and have over 20 years of experience. My greatest passion lies in working on relationships: the relationship you have with yourself and the relationships you have with those around you. For younger clients, it is to bring more self-awareness into their frame of reference. My ideal client participates in the session. Tell me your thoughts on our progress, on how we do things, on your goals. If you're unsure, I'll start, and we can adjust as we go. Welcome to YOUR team. You're the captain and the one who makes the decisions.

My clients struggle with various issues: anxiety, depression, anger, relationship challenges, divorce / break-ups, parenting concerns, medical challenges, etc. They come to me facing ongoing loneliness, sadness, and fear. My clients expect a compassionate space in which to explore their difficulties; unconditional positive regard from me to them. I honor clients where they are at and partner with them to facilitate the healing necessary to get them to where they want to be. My clients explore how their experiences in early childhood shaped how they show up in the world on a day to day basis, sometimes in unexpected ways.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Ann Arbor?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
