Hi, my name is Priya. I am a second-generation Asian-American counselor and I have intimately felt what it feels like to be thought of as “strange,” “different,” or not quite fitting the mold, from both my culture of origin and my birth culture. It is not an easy thing to feel like you never quite belong, and this can be both a wide-spread phenomenon and an intimately unique experience. Though no two experiences are the same, my experience has led me to strongly believe in the power of your voice and of your authentic self, and the power of recognizing your strengths so you can find your unique path.

Part of being human means that at some point, we all come face to face with some sort of difficulty. This is why I believe that counseling can be beneficial for anyone and everyone. Hello and welcome! My area of focus is providing culturally competent counseling to individuals of varying mental health difficulties. I work with clients with various presenting issues, including anxiety and depression, OCD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and addictions. In addition to being a licensed therapist, I am completing my PhD in counseling. My intersectional identities as an Arab-Asian woman from a Muslim background allows me to experience understanding and empathy for those from varying backgrounds and identities.

My counseling approach is social justice oriented, and affirming of all cultures, genders, and sexualities. I often treat clients who suffer from anxiety and OCD, and I help them understand how cultural systems may have reinforced those conditions. While anxiety is a natural part of the human experience, too much can be maladaptive. Influenced by evidence-based and Buddhist mindfulness approaches, I help clients examine and confront the sources of their anxiety, find better ways to manage it, and ultimately pursue a life that is consistent with their values.
