I am a licensed clinical psychologist in California and Illinois and work with a group of talented clinicians at Evidence Based Therapy Partners. I focus on providing evidence-based treatment with fidelity. I recognize that therapy can be a difficult experience. I work hard to ensure that my clients feel understood and validated. I believe that change naturally flows from acceptance, and therefore strive to bring a non-judgmental and accepting stance to the struggles of my clients.

I have a motto that states, “Not everyone needs therapy, but everyone can benefit from therapy.” Your decision to engage in therapy is a great start to prioritizing your mental health, relationships and wellbeing. You live in a fast-paced and ever changing environment that demands you to be many things to many people. Depletion of your physical and emotional reserve can lead to compromised mental and physical health, relationship conflict and an unfulfilled life. As a multi-faceted and high performing individual, you may need to pause and experience balance to prevent or lessen the effects of burnout and exhaustion.

I specialize in the treatment of insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, and other sleep disorders. Sleep difficulties are often overlooked and yet they undermine our mood, productivity, creativity, memory, and overall health. Whether you recently started having difficulty with sleep or it's been a long standing problem, there are highly effective treatments that do NOT involve the use of medications. In fact, if you are currently taking medications for sleep but would like to reduce or eliminate them, I can help. If anxious thoughts are interfering with your sleep, we can find ways to reduce the impact that anxiety has on your sleep.

What if both mental wellness and mental distress are experiences along a spectrum and this is part of what makes us human? You are not alone as we all travel these experiences that make up our mental health, both in times of flourishing and times of challenge. Reasons for seeking support vary, although daily distress in its subtle or obvious forms can create feelings of anxiety, overwhelm, depletion, or at times a sense of shut down. As our bodies respond to this distress it can result in feeling stuck, disconnected from self, disconnected from satisfying relationships with others, or a sense that things might never change.

“I hate my body.” If you’re struggling with an eating disorder, body dysmorphia, or disordered eating habits, these statements may sound familiar. A challenging relationship with food and body image can be debilitating and all-consuming. What you may be surprised to discover is that your obsession with weight, constant battle with eating, and urges to use self-destructive food behaviors are actually not about food or weight! They are, however, symptoms of deeper internal conflicts and emotional dysregulation - trauma, depression, anxiety, oppression, family turmoil, and low self-esteem. This is where I can help.

You had imagined your life unfolding in this uniquely wonderful way; having a career that fulfilled you and you were excited about, a strong and committed relationship and a great group of friends who supported you and you share exciting experiences with. Now it feels like some areas are just ok and other seem to not be working at all. It also seems like others lives are going great when you look at social media. You feel stuck. Uncertain of the next move or even how to get back to a place of feeling confident and empowered.

Our therapists can help you reduce anxiety and depression. You've probably always wanted to be able to feel calm in the midst of difficult situations, maybe for your whole life. But instead, you're losing sleep, relationships feel fragile, and feelings like depression and anxiety dominate your day, making normal tasks seem impossible. You need things to be different.

I tailor my approach to the unique needs and goals of each client. For instance, I integrate cognitive-behavioral strategies to address specific challenges, foster humanistic principles to promote self-discovery, and employ client-centered techniques to enhance the therapeutic alliance. I believe in the inherent wisdom of the body and incorporate emotional and somatic awareness into my holistic practice. By listening to the body, we can navigate past traumas and painful experiences together.

Whether we're struggling with crushing anxiety, disordered eating, self-destructive patterns, or are looking to get into (or out of) a relationship, this work is about liberation from the noise in our heads by transforming our relationship to it. Through a therapeutic lens, I work with clients to alchemize original wounds into assets, challenge cognitive distortions, identify core confusions and intervene unconscious, fear-based belief systems. No mind hacks, no mantras, just compassionate straight-talk that will demand your grit, your courage, and most likely a sense of humor.

I believe humans heal through connection. The ability to connect with you and your experience, is something that I hold dear. I think everyone's journey is beautiful. I'm a fairly 'active' therapist in that I won't sit back and say nothing. The work is always relational, always happening right there in the session between us. I'm happy to have a phone call to see if we are a good match for each other.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Los Angeles?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
