About
My approach to therapy starts with learning about how the individual has come to experience the world, knowing that this is shaped by traumatic events, societal expectations, attachments to primary caregivers, systemic racism, wiring passed down by ancestors, conditioned responses of the nervous system, so forth and so on. In doing so, we might also uncover blind spots that contribute to the ways we show up in our lives that no longer serve us. My style is direct and open, using a here-and-now perspective rooted in mindfulness-based and existential-humanistic theories.
I work with individuals to identify strategies used for self-preservation or survival, whether through self-betrayal, substance abuse, codependency, or other subtle or more overt strategies, and to explore how they might show up differently or more authentically in vulnerable moments. I am trained in EMDR to address symptoms of trauma, however you define it.
Opening ourselves up to examine aspects of our selves, our pasts, our conditioning, etc. that we might habitually avoid is a vulnerable and humbling process. Feel free to reach out to schedule a 15-min phone consultation to see if we might be a good fit.
