Are you feeling stressed out and overwhelmed? Are there too many pressures and changes that leave you feeling like you are in a hole that you can't get out of? Especially lately, has life thrown you too many unexpected and hard twists and turns that leave you feeling hopeless?

Anis lives and works on Duwamish land. They identify as queer, non-binary, non-monogamous, disabled, Tsinay, and an absolute sweetheart. They decided to become a clinician to deepen their work with survivors, and they look forward to working with any client who is invested in personal and collective growth. In particular, their commitment is to survivors who are abolitionists, community organizers, and/or QTBIPOC (gaysians and theysians, say hey). They offer a therapeutic space that’s akin to time with a community auntie or a night of karaoke: a space that invites in ritual, big feels at whatever volume, and laughter.

A large part of why I have chosen to be a counselor is to simply help those in need. Many people come to therapy wanting relief from life’s challenges, answers to hard questions, or simply to be seen by and connected to another. My hope is that by choosing to engage in therapy, you will be able to experience all the goodness that comes from being respected, valued, and cared for in a truly meaningful way.

The human need for inclusion, as well as separateness, exists in us all. In my practice with couples, I help partners identify these needs and the words that best express them. Partners can then feel more confidence discussing needs and differences with one another while traversing life’s separate and shared goals. When differences entangle into gridlock patterns, however, couple relationships can suffer conflict, avoidance, and even separation. I help partners step back from these repetitive patterns and find feeling words for their individual frustrations and unmet needs, to feel from the inside rather than project onto the other.

Sometimes we struggle to make meaning where life has thrown us a curveball: a death, a divorce, coming out, or even a pandemic. It’s overwhelming trying to bring order to chaos, at times having to impossibly reconcile competing truths. “It gets better” fails to appreciate the acute pain of the moment, only going so far in moving the needle towards hope. In an age where humans are increasingly polarized, buoyed by deeply held beliefs, there remains a need for something more than personal happiness alone. As a relational Therapist, I help clients find sustainable wellness; prioritizing relationship with self and others over ideology.

Psychotherapy for individuals and groups regarding life issues: work, aging, health, relationships, finances, loss and grief, and experiencing the Self. I facilitate adaptation to ongoing living loss such as a medical diagnosis, forced estrangement, or the failing health of a beloved family member. Coping skills are formed early to survive in family-of-origin, which is a microcosm of the culture. As we age, these skills become less adaptive, causing pain. Successful transition through life involves changing ways of coping with life-enhancing skills, and building resilience through healing attachment issues and trauma.

Getting up in the morning, you wish you had a sense of joy. Work is dreadful. Endless meetings and classes leave you feeling the numb. You feel too dried out to pray or read scripture. Church services have become chores rather than hope. A nagging sense of your old family "stuff" is weighing you down. Feeling good has become a wish rather than an experience. You're not alone. Life doesn't have to be this way.

Welcome to LiveWell Counseling. I enjoy working with adults and couples at various stages of their lives by helping them recognize their strengths and needs in order to solve problems and build stronger relationships. My approach to therapy is curious and client-centered, with an emphasis on the role that emotions, beliefs, and narratives play in shaping identity and behavior. In addition to helping people work through difficult issues, I also enjoy working with individuals who are interested in therapy as a process for facilitating personal growth and wholeness.

In an overly connected world, we sometimes just need to be heard. Meeting with someone who listens deeply can uncover the answers that live within our hearts. The therapeutic process allows you to navigate life's transitions (identity, relationships, career, relocation, retirement, grief and loss) with grace. In time, you can bring your whole self to all of your relationships (intimate, family, friends, colleagues). You can also pursue purposeful action in your education, career, community and spiritual life. Living is the process of enduring change. Building resilience allows us to be enriched by that ongoing change process.

I am here to support and encourage you as you journey through your days, facing the joys and trials that come your way. This is sacred ground, and it is both an honor and a privilege to be allowed into the deep, private areas of your life. You will find that this is not something I take lightly but, rather, with humility and deep respect for your courage and willingness to be vulnerable. My desire is to sit with those who are hurting and to walk alongside those who are on a journey towards healing, wholeness, or personal growth.

What is your biggest challenge that, if overcome, would completely change your life? If it was simply a matter of knowing the answer to this question, everyone would be living exactly the life they desired. In reality, "knowing" is only half of the journey. Working together, we will co-create a partnership to explore your opportunities and challenges, making space in your life for the future that you desire. I believe that everyone can and should be living the life of their dreams, because, after all, this is not a dress rehearsal!

People seek help for many reasons such as depressed mood, chronic loneliness, dread and isolation, stormy relationships, and loss. I strongly believe that an under-the-surface approach most effectively alleviates suffering, promotes growth, healing and self-understanding. Parents may bring their child for treatment because of disruptions in the home or school. Through play therapy (and supporting the parents) the behaviors and symptoms can be understood and worked with, leading to change and ultimately, a return to the normal developmental path.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Edmonds?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
