There is creativity in all of us, meaning you do not need to have experience with art materials nor "be good at art" to engage in art therapy.
Our invisible wounds sometimes lead us feeling overwhelmed, confused, stuck, or helpless preventing us from living the life we want to live. If you have ever felt invisible and like no one understands what you are feeling and experiencing, I am here to listen and tell you that your experiences are real and they are valid. I will work with you to create a safe, supportive, nonjudgmental, and empathetic environment to help heal your invisible wounds, make sense of your past, live in the present, and empower you to create a life worth living.

I also am trained in art therapy, where I believe that visual-based interventions can prove equally effective.

My group of focus is primarily adults and adolescents. I offer 10+ years of clinical experience in various treatment settings including prominent experience in depression, anxiety, and trauma as well as self-harm, addiction, and other mood-related/co-occurring disorders.

As an art therapist and EMDR-trained psychotherapist, I enjoy interweaving the creative process into my work to deepen exploration of the subconscious within the context of addressing present concerns.
Your goals are within reach; you are worthy of the support you seek. Although I don't yet know your story, I am confident you possess the unique strengths to achieve your goals: Healing is a remembering of those strengths. Experiencing loss and challenge in our lives is universal, yet these circumstances can leave us feeling disconnected, damaged, or discarded. You deserve to live a life you love, actively engaged as your most authentic, integrated self.

Many of us are often taught from an early age to stuff our feelings. It takes courage to challenge the status quo and start the therapy process. If you're in a transitional time, whether phase of life change, a move, shift in identity, or you're generally struggling to feel stable it is often hard to know where to go next. While this is normal and scary, you don't have to go through the process alone. I work with my clients to acknowledge unhelpful patterns and find healthier ways to execute being the best version of themselves. I work with veterans, healthcare professionals and parents.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
