I have been trained in a range of modalities, including ART (accelerated Resolution Therapy), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Gestalt, Existential and Experiential Therapies.
Life is often full of twists and turns. Many people struggle with what life can bring and the negative emotional and behavioral responses that follow. My goals and passion are to bring healing to those struggling with stressful experiences. My focus is healing the whole person. I help my clients find their path and create intention and passion in their lives. I have over twenty six years of experience helping clients with addiction, depression, anxiety, PTSD and internal conflicts. I can offer ART and EMDR. I know that treatment must be individualized to treat specific needs. I accept insurance and cash pay.

As a Board-certified Art Therapist, I'm trained to help adults and children express themselves both verbally and non-verbally.
Groups now available! Do you feel stuck? Are you having the same arguments over and over again, or setting goals that you don't achieve? Maybe you look back and wonder why you used to be happier, have more energy, and accomplish more. You and I will work closely as a team, and you'll feel comfortable, understood, and empowered. My clients tell me they appreciate my openness, non-judgmental stance, and sense of humor.

We all want to raise resilient, happy, and confident children. Parenting isn’t always easy, or what we expect it to be. From tantrums to defiance, normal development can push us to our limits leaving us feeling exhausted and disconnected. You’re not alone!

Life can be difficult, presenting us with unanticipated obstacles that sometimes challenge our capacities to cope. Your decision to seek out a therapist is a courageous one and represents a significant personal step forward. I see therapy as a collaborative process to meet individuals where they are, so as to explore together what they want to get out of the therapeutic experience.

Healing is real and possible. Suffering does not have to last. I help clients live authentically, find more peace, and connect more to self and others by increasing awareness and acceptance of emotions, increasing body discernment/somatic mindfulness, and enhancing the body/mind/spirit connection. Feeling better comes through learning to regulate the nervous system through the reprocessing of old trauma and healing one's attachment wounds, expressing emotions using expressive arts/music/movement/drumming/psychodrama/writing/etc., learning to re-frame negative thoughts, increasing shame resilience, and practicing self-compassion.

As a Mental Health Therapist I address trauma, depression, and anxiety through talk therapy, EMDR, and Art Therapy.
It’s time for a change but confiding in friends or family doesn't work. It just leaves you feeling more alone. It's hard to know who to trust. Nothing truly helps. The pressure of keeping things inside may feel overwhelming. You may not like yourself and feel unlovable. Decisions seem difficult and the future seems impossible. The small things that used to help don’t seem of use. Your mind feels like an enemy. When you do feel good, it is all too much tackle. It all makes you feel irritable and angry. You want these feelings to go away and want to connect. You want to find an answer. You want to know what to do. I can help.

I have extensive experience in play therapy, and I deeply understand its importance in helping children express themselves. I thoroughly enjoy incorporating therapeutic games, art, and creative mediums such as clay and playdough into my work with kids. Allowing children to express themselves in an alternative way allows for a safe environment to explore any difficulties or trauma they have experienced. No matter what your child is going through, I would love to support and guide them towards processing and growth.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
