Caring and strength-based counseling allows families, kids, and parents to rediscover old strengths, learn and develop new ones, all of which make it possible to walk a different path, away from problems and towards new pleasures. I can help you experience greater mastery and back in control of your life. We can handle a lot, but sometimes one extra stressor or life-changing incident throws us off balance. Then we feel anger, anxiety, and/or depression. Adding insult to injury, these negative emotions further stress us out, making it harder to find solutions and regain our balance in life.
As a family counselor, I am like a coach: I get to know each family member so that I know their unique strengths and growing edges; with their help, I identify modifications likely to cause rapid change so that all involved feel better. My approach is creative and solution-focused.
With children, I communicate with words kids relate to: play! Using play therapy, I help kids express themselves, change behaviors, and improve their communication and problem-solving skills. With teens, I communicate with music and multimedia to address motivation and reality. With parents, I communicate with humor, caring, and strategy.
