As humans, we all face an array of challenges, experience pain and suffering, and sometimes, find ourselves feeling alone in the dark, helpless and hopeless. I understand asking for help can be the most terrifying and uncomfortable decision we have to make during these times. As a therapist, it is my goal to empower my clients through these hardships, to find the light. I am invested in and unafraid to provide the deep connection and nonjudgmental space essential to think, feel, and work through any fears and challenges appearing in the way of achieving your goals.

Working together as a team, you will be assisted in choosing the best 'interest' for you, and how you can work toward achieving this goal. Since becoming a therapist, I have been pursuing my passion of providing high quality therapeutic care to those who have experienced chronic, complex trauma and are now wanting to break the cycle and heal. I am a firm believer that trauma impacts our whole beings. And left untreated, trauma takes an emotional and physical toll that wreaks havoc on our mind, bodies, and spirits. I take pride in working with my clients to build a collaboration and empowering my clients to be the expert in their own lives and be the drivers in their own treatment process. I also offer clinical supervision to those working towards licensure.

You might be feeling overwhelmed and I wonder what it would be like for you to have someone share that space with you, rather than carrying the load on your own. I truly believe that the healing process requires both the therapist and the client to collaborate and create a blueprint that is specific to each individual’s goals and needs. Therapy is not a one size fits all and it is my intention to ensure that I see you, I am with you, and I believe in your ability to commit to your wellbeing.

I tailor my approach to each individual client & like to pull interventions from CBT, DBT, behavioral, polyvagal, play, art, and psychodynamic therapies.
Let’s face it, sometimes, existing can be exhausting & I recognize that asking for help can feel scary or overwhelming. I strive to make starting therapy, & the therapeutic process, as comfortable & stress free as possible. I believe that no one knows you better than you know yourself & that we often harbor the solutions to many of our own questions. Sometimes it just takes another pair of eyes to help you see it through. I like to use a collaborative approach, which puts my clients in the driver’s seat. This gives clients the power to establish clear goals, set the pace, & explore issues on their terms while I help navigate.

As an art therapist and counselor, we will creatively and collaboratively explore the things in your life that aren't working and I can support you in finding solutions to the things that get in the way of living your life to the fullest.
Do things in your life not seem to be working anymore? Are you feeling more disconnected, down and isolated, and unwilling to engage in the things you used to enjoy? Or are you feeling so anxious about life that it no longer seems manageable? Maybe you're drinking more, eating less (or more), or finding it difficult to get out of bed. Perhaps you find the meaningful relationships in your life lacking. Sometimes life throws us curveballs that we don't believe we can recover from. And you know what? That's okay. Because you can get through this.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
