My experience comes from 31 years of helping children, adults, couples and families in both Community Mental Health and Private Practice. My approach is eclectic and tailored to each individual's needs to facilitate healing and growth. Through my years of experience I have witnessed over and over again people coming into therapy with great pain, discomfort and despair but with time, (sometimes within a very short time) their symptoms diminish and a whole new person emerges. Crisis times can be extremely painful and distressful but they can also be opportunities for growth and healing through therapy.

I specialize in supporting women, college-aged individuals, young girls and teens. Together, we focus on your anxiety, depression and finding goals. All of these are quite treatable. Positive Psychology is a valuable tool for feeling supported and safe to talk about absolutely everything. A trusted psychologist reminds others of their strengths, how to center, self-regulate and feel more solid in oneself. For decades, I have treated ambiguous issues, offered compassionate therapy with depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Additionally, I support families and LGBTQ+ individuals. Feel free to contact me about positively anything.

You love this person and want to believe they love you too. Yet seemingly small and insignificant issues explode into verbal attacks and defensiveness that escalates to questioning if the relationship is worth it. You’re left feeling resentful, lonely, confused, and frustrated. The hardest part? After months or years of making up and recommitting to each other, not much has changed. While apologies and time seem to help, the same pattern continues to happen- only under different circumstances. The love is there and all you want is a healthy relationship. My passion is supporting couples and families to get to where they want to be.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that may have minimized your self-esteem. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be. I hold a container of acceptance in the therapy room, while searching for its meaning and resolution.

I enjoy using my training in Art Therapy, EMDR, Internal Family Systems, Relational Gestalt and Solution-Focused Therapy to help clients in their healing process.
Sometimes in an effort to manage painful experiences in life, we end up getting stuck in roles and patterns that do not serve us. Sometimes we don't know where to start, but we know we want something else. I will listen with curiosity and compassion and offer support in your journey to understand what serves you now. I can help with anxiety, depression, history of abuse, lack of motivation and self destructive habits among other issues. I have a strong interest in healing the effects of trauma so clients can increase their sense of empowerment in the world.

I enjoy working with a variety of populations; children, families, couples, adolescents, and geriatric population. I am culturally diverse, and I am bilingual Spanish speaking and I enjoy meeting and hearing people's stories. I use art as a form of expression to allow people to express themselves when words are hard to access. I have many years experience working with children 0-5 and I have an Infant Mental Health Certificate from Santa Clara County. I recently got trained in EMDR (Eye Movement) processing. My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe trusting empathetic environment and to empower people to solve your own problems.

Where deeper work is needed, I often use projective therapies, such as Art therapy,or Sand tray,as well as work books that address healing from depression, sexual abuse, ADHD, and grief.
I believe the therapeutic relationship is an important piece of the process through which growth and healing can occur. Helping clients to feel safe enough to share their feelings is paramount, and to offer hope is vital. It is important for the fearful to know that courage is being afraid, but doing it anyway. This concept promotes self esteem, and helps people to move forward in their lives. I use a variety of theoretical orientations, but chose the ones that are best suited for my client needs. I give clients tools to work with that will help them change their negative thoughts to positive ones..

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
