Therapy is a journey that has the power to heal and to help you become your most true self. My approach emphasizes the importance of the therapeutic relationship, which I believe is the primary mechanism for change. I believe we may work well together if you are interested in a relational experience and value an approach that focuses on connecting with and understanding emotional experiences. I work collaboratively with my clients to identify old patterns of relating to others that are no longer serving them and move towards new and healthier ways of being.

Recognizing the need for help is challenging enough; finding the best clinician should be simple and straightforward. Regardless of who we are working with, our primary focus is on improving self-esteem, building self-confidence, and working to enrich the self-worth of each of our clients. The more faith a person has in their own abilities and innate uniqueness, the more they are able to engage with the world they live in, the family they belong to, and the life they deserve to experience. Put simply, we aim to improve the quality of life for every one of our clients.

After twenty years of helping clients my counseling approach is to look for the Health within you regardless of what you are currently experiencing. Once you get a sense of this inner Health you can use it to overcome the obstacles that are preventing you from enjoying your life or your relationships. I help you focus on areas of difficulty with kind acceptance. Anxiety, depression and unhappiness transform into greater contentment. You begin to experience yourself as bigger than the problem.

Through therapy, we can author and re-author life stories and personal mythologies in order to bring self-supporting realities into existence. I work collaboratively with clients, cultivating existing strengths and internal resources in order to foster relationships and life experiences that contribute to clients' recovery and wellbeing. When invited, and with respect, I’m honored to explore what makes clients who they are, and to support who they want to become.

Starting therapy is not easy, and I hope you'll soon feel comfortable with me because of how I listen and become interested in the details you bring, helping you start to feel safe and at ease. I'll listen to the layers of what you say, and do my best to notice patterns which you may be unaware of. Together we'll think about the present moment of your life, your history, your needs and desires, and what gets in the way of your greater happiness and satisfaction.

You’re a conscious, sensitive person, committed to justice and healing - but you find yourself feeling alone and confused about why you are continually struggling in relationships, or worse - you're worried intergenerational trauma has made being in healthy relationship out of reach for you. You’re intelligent and thoughtful, but you worry you're not reaching your potential because you’ve spent your life taking care of others and managing your anxiety/self doubt. You have a hard time trusting/knowing your own voice, and/or setting boundaries for yourself and others. I am passionate about working with LGBTQiA+ / BIPOC folks.

In my practice, I see children, adolescents and adults who are seeking help for a variety of reasons. Common areas of need include depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and relationship difficulties. With children, these concerns may express themselves through externalizing behaviors at school and/or at home. I offer an open, non-judgmental, and safe therapeutic relationship. My approach is adapted carefully to individual needs and is inclusive in regard to gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, culture, class, and religious/spiritual orientation. I work with many LGBTQ+ individuals in my practice.

I believe that our experiences in life are reflected in our behaviors, shape our thoughts, are held in our bodies, and trigger our emotions often outside of our consciousness. Increasing awareness at all levels allows us to have access to more choices in our lives. I see the goal of psychotherapy is to help people find a place in them where it feels safe, loving, and truthful, accessing their authentic selves. To facilitate this process, I explore with clients their thoughts and belief systems, behaviors, feelings, and physical sensations, helping to connect and integrate the mind, body and spirit.

Do you find yourself feeling overwhelmed and weighed down by critical self-talk? Is it difficult to stand up for your needs and set healthy boundaries? Many of us have the desire to be truly listened to, seen, and deeply understood. I believe all of us have the answers within ourselves and our unique experiences, and sometimes we just need a little help from someone else to help us discover them. I'm not going to talk your ear off or mansplain your nervous system to you. I will listen, we will talk through things, I will challenge the way you look at things, there may be tears, and there will definitely be laughter.

Do you ever find that the more you try to get rid of painful emotions, the more overwhelmed you feel? Life can sometimes feel like a straw finger puzzle: the more you pull, the tighter the grip. This is partly because life is challenging. It is also because in times of stress, we are wired to protect ourselves by focusing on potential dangers. Although adaptive for some situations, this wiring can become a closed feedback loop: the harder you try, the more you see only problems; and the more problems you see, the more you lose sight of the strengths and resources that facilitate change.

My Name is Vimmi Jaggi, LCSW licensed in CA 75673 and for the past about 14-15 years, I have been working to assist patients with finding ease of life. I help patients learn and break patterns: cultural, generational, or circumstantial that sometimes show up as fatigue, sadness, anxiety, overthinking and disable us from the joy of our lives. We all deserve loving kindness and can break these cycles that disable us. In such times we all can use trauma-informed and nonjudgmental support to help us heal from symptomatic root causes. There is hope. I wish to work together to help you find these hopes and choices.

I love solving puzzles and would love to help you solve yours. What that means to me is that when we talk, I am thinking about your situation not just through your personal lens, but through the situations you currently exist in and have been in throughout your life, as well as the bigger societal and systemic context. I am a solution oriented therapist, meaning that I love to unpack stories and look at root causes with a focus on your goals, health in the current time, and freedom from habits and thoughts that aren't serving you. You deserve to feel hopeful and empowered, so let's talk.

Not accepting new clients
Currenlty not accepting new clients. Anxiety is a normal part of life and serves an important function of keeping us safe. When your body is anxious in response to a real threat then it is healthy anxiety. It becomes problematic when you find your anxiety is taking away your choices in life. When your body is creating more anxiety than the situation calls for. For instance, you want to meet new people but your afraid to “put yourself out there”. You may struggle to make a phone call or leave your house because interactions with people are overwhelming.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Oakland?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
