Being an Art Therapist who's learned and grown from watching anime, discovering the self by connecting with media is a welcome experience in my counseling.
Navigating the internet, immersing in anime, or diving into the gaming community can create both coping skills and stress within ourselves. It’s not uncommon to meet clients who’ve been left with many questions due to feeling targeted by their TikTok algorithm. I approach this by providing a safe space in which you can explore, reflect, and communicate freely, tailored to your unique experiences. As a telehealth provider, I aim to have services be just as beneficial and fulfilling as in-person services.

With children, I also use play therapy and art as tools to enter the child's world.
In many ways good psychotherapy is like a successful remodel, frequently resulting in a stronger and more spacious sense of one's self, lovely new rooms, remarkable views and better access to the world outside (and in). The journey of self-discovery takes courage, but increasing one's awareness of old limitations and obstacles, and developing the ability to gently and carefully dismantle and rebuild where necessary is incredibly rewarding -- often beyond what we can imagine. I believe that it's a collaborative journey on which we embark, moving together towards creating a more fulfilling and rewarding life for you.

Hello! I’m so glad you found me. My approach to therapy is to engage the whole person in order to make meaningful change. Movement in therapy can range from focusing on breath to self-lead movement expression, and can be used with any age and ability. I focus on working with infants, children, teens, and families. Using a strength-based, solution-focused approach, and CBT, I work on issues occurring both in school and at home. I believe that by working through life's everyday ups and downs it is possible for everyone to feel good about being themselves. One of my hopes is that clients leave my office feeling better than they did when they walked in. One of my passions is supporting people to have a good day. I enjoy helping clients highlight strengths and build upon them in the therapeutic setting. We can work together to do more of what works, and less of what doesn't.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
