Cindy she has worked with a variety of populations such as the elderly within assisted living homes, children with severe emotional disturbances, adolescents and young adults adjusting to new phases of life, survivors of trauma, and those who embody that of the “walking wounded”. Cindy’s strengths are within the areas of depression, anxiety, ADHD, and PTSD. Cindy also utilizes a variety of interventions including that of mindfulness, trauma sensitive yoga, and the integration of art and music.

I provide ADHD coaching and psychotherapy to youth (grades 4 and up), adults, couples, and families via in person, phone, or Online. I believe one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself is self-awareness through therapy or coaching. This involves a great deal of self-care and acceptance while you honor your strengths, identify and accept the things you need to work on, and learn strategies and coping skills. Some issues I can provide coaching or therapeutic support for are: ADHD, executive functioning challenges, depression, anxiety, OCD, grief and loss, infertility, social, interpersonal and/or parenting difficulties.

I can help make a positive change for your youth that will be reflected at home, in school, in the community, and for your family as a whole. I specialize in issues specific to school aged children and adolescents. In addition to attention and behavioral issues, I also work with school refusal, depression, anxiety, the struggle to "fit in". I also treat youth with Autism Spectrum disorder, and provide behavioral/social support and growth. My mission is to connect with youth and their families and to help them grow in the areas most needed.

What is Art Therapy? This is the number one question asked of me. Briefly, as defined by the American Art Therapy Association (AATA), "Art therapy is a mental health profession in which clients, facilitated by the art therapist, use art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork to explore their feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior and addictions, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, reduce anxiety, and increase self-esteem. A goal in art therapy is to improve or restore a client's functioning and his/her sense of personal well-being." The creative process lends itself readily to meeting the individual where they are at in the present moment. My personal style mirrors this. I utilize both the non-verbal and verbal processes to facilitate understanding, awareness and growth. My particular areas of expertise are grief/loss, attachment issues (i.e.foster care/adoption), trauma, mood instability, and disordered personality.

Elizabeth Couturier (Beth) is a Board-Certified Art Therapist. She received her M.A. in Art Therapy from George Washington University (2008). As an art therapist, she has seen how art can be a powerful tool of self-expression which leads to positive self-esteem, social interaction, and an overall increase in well-being. In addition to her art therapy background, she has extensively studied Play Therapy through trainings at The Play Therapy Training Institute, as well as the Association for Play Therapy.

As a Jungian psychoanalyst I work with individuals who are willing to take the road of creative expression to relieve their emotional distress and suffering. I listen to the symptoms of the body and the soul in order to transform them into meaningful symbols which can guide one toward wholeness. I use sandplay and dreamwork as some of the creative means to reach for the expression of what is yet to be known. My goal of therapy with my clients is the alleviation of symptoms and a move toward creative living. I work with couples where psyche in relationship to the other.

Lighthouse Counseling & Sand Play Training Center, LLC was conceived in 2000 in a tiny office in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey by Gretchen Morgan and Mary Pat McGeehin. Their search for effective treatment led them to include the use of Sand Play Therapy, EMDR, yoga and therapeutic group work with their clients. This was in response to the expanding body of research which illustrated that the mind-body connection was integral to the healing of mental health issues. In 2004, they expanded their practice to include like-minded affiliate clinicians and moved to a larger facility in Eatontown, New Jersey.

Village Counseling Services is a professional group that provides support services to the independently licensed psychologists, psychotherapists and board-certified psychiatrists, who have been providing client-centered, evidence-based treatment to the greater Lawrenceville/Princeton community since 1996.

Children & Adolescents struggle with emotions, thoughts, & beliefs, but at times don't have the words or life experiences on which to reflect and find solutions. Acting out behaviors can be an expression of unmet needs, uncommunicated truths, insufficient coping skills to manage stressors / challenges, and can be signals that something is not OK. Families & individuals can communicate, heal, grow, understand, empathize, & manage emotions/ behaviors to thrive, succeed, and live a satisfying life. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Marymount Manhattan College and Master’s Degree in Social Work from Hunter College. I am a Registered Yoga Teacher and certified Sand Play therapist.
