I believe the first step in therapy is to create room for ALL of our thoughts and feelings and work to develop a new network of insights and behaviors that allow us to be more present, more aware and to live more fully. However we also know that so many life stressors and challenges get in the way and contribute to our struggling relationships, compulsive behaviors, addictions, feelings of hopelessness, incessant worries or past traumas that weighs us down. Holding space for ourselves and our feelings and emotions will help us to navigate these challenges easier and will allow our more authentic and best selves to emerge.
I believe change is possible and that most everything in life is learned through lived experience. How those experiences show up and shape our present everyday lives is the context upon which we will use in therapy. Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) is the primary treatment modality I choose to engage clients in counseling practice.
Finding our way through the myriad of life’s challenges requires a deepening of our ability to be self-reflective, willingness to trust ourselves and each other to be fully present and committed to getting the most out of therapy.
