I thrive in treating behavioral concerns, grief, women's issues, and trauma exploration.
Hello, my name is Heather Zimmerman, BSW, MSW, LCSW. I pride myself on being a "modern-day hybrid therapist" of sorts, being adaptable to client needs, and having an understanding of a multitude of therapeutic techniques and methods. In many ways, I have been told that therapy does not feel like therapy, but that the healing and growth occurs without the client being totally aware. I strive to provide clients with the utmost sense of care and support through honest feedback and solution-focused care.

Over the past several years, rates of depression and anxiety have continued to rise, with many exhibiting increased frustration and anger. Stress can significantly impact our beliefs, often distorting our self-perception and reinforcing negative thinking patterns. These cognitive distortions create a false narrative about who we are, influencing our emotions and behaviors.
With over 20 years of experience, I have provided guidance and support to individuals of all ages, equipping them with the tools to reframe negative thought patterns, release the burdens of the past, and make healthier life choices. If you or someone

Hi there! I’m so glad you’re searching for the support you need and deserve. As a therapist, I believe that you are the expert in your own experience, and that you have a beautiful story to tell. I love working with clients who are willing to do the hard work of digging into the emotions and beliefs that keep us stuck in cycles of stress. My biggest passion is helping clients dismantle shame. I am a firm believer that we have all been directly affected by shameful messages about food, our bodies, and our sexuality, and I want for everyone to be able to experience freedom in these areas.

If you are tired of how things are going and committed to improvement, it's time to do something.

I offer counseling to women.
Have you gone to therapy for years, but still feel stuck? It seems like talking about your life isn't getting you anywhere, and you just want to move forward. You are tired of your mind racing at night when it needs to shut down to sleep. You are easily distracted when you need to focus on tasks at work. You feel guilty when you get angry about the most insignificant things. You want to be the person who everyone sees as cool, calm and collected because it seems those people have peace.

My ideal client is someone who is ready to make changes and see improvement in their life. Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed, down, anxious, lonely, or struggling in a relationship? These are symptoms telling you something isn't right, and you may need help figuring out what to do differently in order to feel better. You have probably tried several things, before seeking counseling, that haven't gotten you the results you want. Issues are always multifaceted, and it can be very difficult to figure out on your own. I will work to equip and empower you to move forward in confidence.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
