Whether you are struggling with depression , anxiety, relationship concerns, feelings of low self-worth or other mental health challenges, as Maya Angelou said, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.
As we move through life we tell ourselves stories. Stories about who we are and who we think we “should” be; where we come from and where we want to go. Stories about our relationships and our place in this world. As a therapist, my goal is to help you tell your story, to look at it from different perspectives, and change it as you see fit. I take a systems-based approach, acknowledging the importance of how you are impacted by the familial, societal, economic, and political systems your story takes place in. Our mental health does not exist in a vacuum, and how these systems interact play an important role.

Understanding the world around you can be challenging, especially when faced with anxiety, depression , self-esteem issues, or general life stress. Children, teens, and young adults may have even more of a challenge if they are still learning about themselves or have experienced stressors beyond their control. Learning skills to overcome these stressors or wanting to create a deeper understanding of the self are two reasons young adults or parents (of children in need) may seek out therapy.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
